As the contract situation of Real Madrid target Christian Eriksen lingers on at Tottenham Hotspur, the Denmark international has once again been left out of the starting line-up by Mauricio Pochettino as the London club face Newcastle United in the Premier League on Sunday.
Instead Eriksen has only made the bench for the match at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium having been linked over the summer with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu, with Manchester United also thought to have had him on their radar in the event Paul Pogba left Old Trafford.
But no move away from London has materialised for Eriksen, who is in the final year of his contract and is understood to have shied away from contract extension talks with the hierarchy at Spurs.
The impasse between Eriksen and Spurs has seen the 27-year-old midfielder lose his place in Pochettino’s first team plans since the start of the 2019/20 campaign.
Along with the absence of Eriksen, Spurs record signing Tanguy Ndombele is missing from the match-day squad altogether, with Moussa Sissoko, Harry Winks and Erik Lamela making up the three-man midfield against the Magpies.
Harry Kane leads the lines for Spurs upfront alongside Lucas Moura and the returning Heung-min Son making his first appearance of the season after serving a three-match ban from the end of last season as punishment for a straight red card.
