[VIDEO] Super Eagles star reveals future of Nigerian football is bright after AFCON bronze

Super Eagles’ star, John Ogu has revealed that the future of Nigerian football is bright following the performances of the team that represented the nation at the recently concluded Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt. The Super Eagles claimed the bronze medal after beating the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia to finish behind Senegal and champions Algeria.

Image result for john oguSpeaking to reporters at the Summer Camp organized by John Oghenekaro Etebo at the National Stadium in Lagos, John Ogu revealed his mixed feelings at the AFCON tournament in Egypt. The midfielder revealed that the players were disappointed not to win the tournament but we’re proud that they did not leave Egypt empty-handed.

“Representing my country was a big plus for me. The dream was to go there to win, but unfortunately, we came back with bronze. We, as players were not satisfied but we are proud of ourselves. We won against big sides like Cameroon and South Africa. To be honest, we are happy that we left Egypt with something. The future is bright for our football,” Ogu said.

The midfielder was also asked to reveal his plans for the upcoming season as he is on the market in the summer transfer window. The talented star has been linked with several clubs but he is yet to commit his future to any club. He was released by Hapoel Be’er Sheva in Israel at the end of the season.

“For John Ogu, I don’t know. I just ended the Nations Cup, and I am taking everything as it comes. I will stay fit and try to stay healthy so when the new club comes, I would be ready,” he said in response to questions regarding his position in the transfer market.

Ogu began playing football at the youth departments of Akwa Starlets, Akwa United and the Flying Sports Academy. In September 2006, he began his adult career in Slovenia when he signed with Drava Ptuj from the Slovenian PrvaLiga.

In his four-year stint, Ogu scored eight goals in 97 appearances.

He had stints with several clubs in Portugal including Almeria B, Leiria, and Academica before joining Hapoel in 2014. In the ranking of Walla by 60 sports journalists and professionals for the 2016–17 season, Ogu was chosen as the best soccer player in Israel.

In August 2016, Ogu won the Israel Super Cup with Hapoel Be’er Sheva after winning 4–2 against Maccabi Haifa.
