Bad news for Arsenal fans as their darling club is in danger of losing a top transfer target to none other than North London rivals, Tottenham Hotspur, as the Lilywhites are looking to hijack William Saliba’s move from St. Etienne to the Emirates Stadium.
According to the BBC, it is understood that negotiations between Arsenal, Saint Etienne and Saliba were in their very final stages, with much of it already in the hands of lawyers to agree wording of contracts and other details.
However, Tottenham have reignited interest in the highly-rated defender and are said to now be pushing hard to get a deal completed for the teenager completed.
This is despite the Gunners being set to secure a £27 million deal for the 18-year-old that was to see him loaned back to the Ligue 1 club next season.
That deal was believed to be in instalments and would not have had a big impact on Arsenal’s restricted £45 million summer budget.
But as Spurs have now submitted a bid reportedly more lucrative for St. Etienne, it remains to be seen if Arsenal would be able to bring the deal home or lose their transfer target to their neighbours.
