Super Eagles of Nigeria will take on the Syli Nationale of Guinea in their next group stage fixture in the ongoing African Cup of Nations(AFCON) 2019 in Egypt. Ahead of the encounter, Gernot Rohr have received a very good news as Confederation of African Football (CAF) declared Super Eagles winger Samuel Kalu fit to play against Guinea.
The news came after another series of test which was done in Cairo, Egypt. Team Administrator, Dayo Enebi Achor, told thenff.com that team doctor Ibrahim Gyaran travelled with Kalu, to conduct the test alongside a CAF medical officer.
“Kalu has been declared fit to play as from now. “His featuring in Wednesday’s match against Guinea, however, depends on if he is picked by the technical crew led by Coach Gernot Rohr,” Achor said.
The former Gent winger had collapsed last week during training, as he attempted to take a corner kick. He was quickly stabilised and taken to hospital for a round of tests, where he was said to be dehydrated and needed to take more fluids.
Kalu will be another good addition to the Super Eagles fold after they struggled to a 1-0 win over the Swallows of Burundi in the first game.
The 21-year old had been an undisputed starter under Rohr since joining the Super Eagles but his place in the starting XI came under threat since the training incident happened. After being declared fit by CAF, Nigerian fans will now be looking forward to the next game against Guinea if the German coach will opt to play the Bordeaux winger.
Another good news from Super Eagles camp is that, left fullback Jamilu Collins has returned to training ahead of clash against Guinea on Wednesday just like Kalu. Collins, who was knocked out from the AFCON 2019 clash against Burundi by injury, had a light training with the team on Monday evening in Alexandria.
Ola Aina took Collins place, and provided the assist for Super Eagles in Saturday’s hard-fought 1-0 win against the Swallows of Burundi. With regular right-back, Shehu Abdullahi down with a hamstring injury he picked in the game against Burundi, Collins’ return from injury will increase the number of defensive options available to Rohr ahead of the game.
