CEO Rudi Völler regrets the departure. “Julian has chosen us as a 17-year-old player, who was then courted by a large number of clubs and since then has developed wonderfully, he has become a national player in Leverkusen and we would like to keep him for a while.”

“Although Julian has played in the Bundesliga for a long time and has a lot of experience both nationally and internationally, at the age of 23 he is still a very young professional with development potential,” said Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc. The Borussia had already announced on Tuesday the obligation of the national player Nico Schulz of the TSG Hoffenheim until 2024.
