Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane is set to sell fourteen players as the Frenchman plans to reshape the team after a terrible season in which the Los Blancos have lost eleven league games, and also got eliminated from the second round of the UEFA Champions League.
Zinedine Zidane is set to have a major overhaul at Real Madrid this summer where he could let up to 14 players leave in a bid to get the club back to winning ways. The Spanish giants have struggled both domestically and in Europe, after they were dumped out of the Champions League in the last 16, while also finishing the season trophyless.
Zidane is hoping to bring in Eden Hazard, Paul Pogba and Luka Jovic to turn the club’s fortunes around but this will mean the end for the likes of Keylor Navas, James Rodriguez and Gareth Bale at the club, according to Marca. As things stand, 19 players are set to be a part of Zidane’s pre-season plans in the United States on July 8 while several others face uncertainty over their futures.
Navas has been told he won’t be needed for 2019-20 campaign and is free to find a new team, with Andriy Lunin and Luca Zidane set to be named as back-up goalkeepers for Thibaut Courtois. When it comes to the defence, Jesus Vallejo, Theo Hernandez and Sergio Reguilon are all unlikely to be at the club beyond the summer.
Zidane is keen to bring Lyon full back Ferland Mendy in as competition for Marcelo while Eder Militao will complete his move from Porto once the season has ended.
HEADING FOR THE BERNABEU EXIT
Goalkeeper: Keylor Navas
Defenders: Jesus Vallejo, Theo Hernandez and Sergio Reguilon
Midfielders: Dani Ceballos, Marcos Llorente, Mateo Kovacic, James Rodriguez, Martin Odegaard and Oscar Rodriguez
Forwards: Gareth Bale, Lucas Vazquez, Brahim Diaz and Mariano Diaz
When it comes to midfield, Mateo Kovacic, James Rodriguez and Martin Odegaard could all be allowed to leave as Real target Pogba, Christian Eriksen and Ajax’s Donny van de Beek. Dani Ceballos, Marcos Llorente and Oscar Rodriguez are also potential names that could be heading for the exit at the Bernabeu.
Bale, the most high-profile name on the list, has been told that he will be frozen out of the first team should he not be able to find a new club this summer. Paris Saint-Germain, Tottenham and Manchester United have all been mooted as potential destinations for the Welshman.
Hazard has been heavily linked to replace Bale with Real ready to make a £86million bid for the Chelsea talisman. Lucas Vazquez, Brahim Diaz and Mariano Diaz could also be facing anxious waits over their futures at the La Liga side.
