The summer transfer is open in the English Premier League and one of Barcelona star players could be on the move as he is considering his future at the club due to lack playing time. Nelson Semedo could be on his was out of the club according to reliable reports in Spanish media outlet, Marca.
Barcelona signed Nelson Semedo from Benfica in 2017 for a fee of 30 million euros, plus a further five million in add-ons, and the Portuguese defender has largely lived up to expectation since arriving at the Camp Nou, despite sharing right-back duties with Sergi Roberto.
However, that last point is where Semedo’s current problem lies; he wants to play a more prominent role in the side. This season, for instance, he has played for 42 percent of the minutes, with Sergi Roberto often receiving the nod by Ernesto Valverde.
The 25-year-old is aware that he would be a guaranteed starter at many other teams, so he is considering his future with the Blaugrana. Semedo has proposals from the Premier League and Serie A, who would be willing to bid 35m euros to take him away from Catalonia. As yet, they are not official offers but the player himself is aware of the interest. He will have to make a decision soon in order to inform the club about his intentions.
There is no denying the fact that Barcelona will need to generate funds via sales if they are to sign Matthijs de Ligt and Antoine Griezmann, having already spent 75m plus 11m in add-ons for Frenkie de Jong.
While those upstairs at the Camp Nou are happy with Semedo and his performances, every player in the squad, aside from Lionel Messi, is transferable. Should Semedo leave the club, the idea would be to promote Moussa Wague up to the first team. The idea of selling Semedo seems more likely than parting ways with Sergi Roberto, too, particularly as the Catalan is one of the few players in the squad to have come through La Masia, while he is also one of Barcelona’s captains.
In the other news. Barcelona are also looking into the possibility of losing another player this summer but it is on one condition. Should he leave Barcelona this summer, Jean-Clair Todibo will leave on loan and only if he is guaranteed to be a first-team regular.
It has been widely reported that Italian giants Napoli are interested in signing him on a temporary deal. However, his agent has played down these rumours, suggesting that a move would be unlikely unless the player was given some serious assurances about his playing time. The fact that Napoli are already well stocked in the central defensive department puts the move into even further doubt.
“I have spoken to Barcelona, and nothing has been decided about [Todibo’s] future,” Tobido’s agent Bruno Satin said. “He will either stay at the club [Barcelona] or he will go on loan if he is guaranteed a minimum of 30 matches.
“It is therefore why it is very unlikely that he will go to Napoli as the chances of them being able to offer him so much first team football are slim. “I cannot demand that Carlo Ancelotti plays him for at least 30 matches over the course of the season as that would be hugely disrespectful both to him and to the club.”
