Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil finally gaining the confidence of his coach as he puts in a man of the match performance against Newcastle

Say what you want about Mesut Ozil, he is a big player and a World Cup winner at that. He has performed for Real Madrid and for Arsenal in crucial games and has single-handedly put in match-winning performances for both club and country.

Ozil is a brilliant player, he is one of those players that can spot a pass and put a player through on goal in the blink of an eye, he is technically gifted and also has amazing composure to make the right decisions when with the ball.

A lot of pundits believe Ozil isn’t a consistent performer and goes missing in some games, but every player goes through tough and dry periods where their stats drop but that doesn’t mean they don’t contribute to the team in other ways.

Since Emery was appointed as Arsenal manager, Ozil has been in and out of the starting line up. Before yesterday’s game at Newcastle, he had only made three starts since Boxing Day last year, which is very strange for a player of his quality. Emery has often said Ozil hasn’t been able to maintain his fitness levels and needs to work harder in training so as to get more opportunities in the first team.

Yesterday’s game was a major step in the right direction for Ozil. In a game against Newcastle who is on a good run recently, Arsenal needed a win to take them above Tottenham who lost their game against Liverpool and also Manchester United who got past Watford. Ozil stepped up and delivered a man of the match performance, although a few would argue Ramsey deserved it, it was Ozil who controlled the game.

Emery said after the game yesterday that Ozil is playing well again and also performing to the clubs level. He is working hard and also understands the teams’ system and tactics. This can only be good news for Mesut who will be looking forward to cementing a regular starting spot again in the Arsenal team.

For Arsenal to ensure they get into the top four and qualify for the champions league, they need all their top players firing. Ozil has the experience and clearly has a lot to offer going forward for this Arsenal side, it is only fair that Emery places his trust in him completely.
