Top knot

Let’s say your natural hair just decides it’s not going to cooperate with you (like most days). There’s always one natural hairstyle you can fall back on that will never fail you – the top knot. Even Zara recognizes the awesomeness of this staple look. A quick tip to keep your strays in check is to hold them down with bobby pins that have been sprayed with hairspray. The spray keeps the pin from snagging your natural hair strands and keeps them safe and in place.

The whole point of being natural is to avoid the damage done to hair by chemicals in manufactured products. So why not ensure the premium health of your natural hair by making your own shampoo at home?

If you want to save money and protect your hair by making your own shampoo, here are three recipes you should follow:

Coconut Milk Shampoo and Body Wash

You’ll need:

  • 1/2 cup of liquid castile soap
  • 1/3 cup homemade coconut milk
  • 1 teaspoon of olive oil

Simply mix all three ingredients together and pour in a plastic bottle. Your shampoo is ready for use! Choose a bottle that you can easily pour out shampoo from. The coconut milk will separate and settle so you’ll need to shake the bottle before each use for the ingredients to mix again. Your shampoo should last for two weeks but you can put it in the fridge if you want it to last longer.

SHOCKING! Do You Know That There Are Certain People Who Can Never Contact The HIV Virus? Here’s Why

Image result for 177 Views Health New Research Reveals Why Some People Can Never Contact HIV

So researchers have turned their attention to the tiny proportion of people known as HIV “elite controllers”. These are people who are infected with the virus but show no symptoms of HIV for decades, even without the use of medication. How they manage this has remained unknown, but many are now desperately trying to figure it out in order to produce similar results in non-elite controller patients. When HIV infects the body, it heads for the immune cells known as T cells. While much of previous research has focused on how the virus affects these cells as they circulate in the blood – due largely to the ease at which this is sampled – the latest team looked instead at what happens when the infected T cells return to the lymphoid tissue that forms part of the immune system.

While elite controllers have CD8 T cells that are more efficient at killing HIV-infected cells in the blood, the majority of the virus is not found in the blood but the tissue. Here, elite controllers, seem to have a unique adaptation too. Unlike most patients, the T cells of elite controllers move into the lymphoid tissue and stay there, expressing different genes and making different proteins to help fight off the HIV that’s infecting the tissue. How they do this – and how scientists can replicate it – is the next step in fully understanding the ability of HIV elite controllers, but hopefully this research will form the foundations for future studies.

WATCH OUT! These Are Five Diseases; They Kill People Faster Than HIV/AIDS And Are More Dangerous

Approximately 30 million people have died from AIDS-related infections globally. At some point, we all dreaded because it was assumed that it was the most deadly disease. However, many ailments on the rise are deadlier than AIDS. Below are 5 diseases that kill quicker than HIV AIDS.

Image result for These Five Diseases Kill People Faster Than HIV/AIDS And Are More Dangerous

Cancer

Experts admit that it is the most lethal disease as there are more than 100 types of cancer. When diagnosed at an earlier stage, cancer does not kill because early treatment can help control it. When advanced, you do not stand the chance to fight the infection. Common examples of cancer include breast, prostrate, skin, liver, and lung cancer.

Human Papilloma Virus (HPV)

HPV is a new deadly disease transmitted through sexual intercourse. It is presumed to be deadlier than AIDS.  Moist membranes that might get infected include the cervix, mouth and anus. HPV consists of a group of more than 150 related diseases. They can be contacted through direct skin-to-skin contact that end up affecting the genitals and can develop into prostrate and cervical cancer. Notably, women contract HPVs more than men.

At some point in our lives, we have probably been told this before but all the same, one should observe good personal hygiene to avoid all these disorders and diseases. Other than that, ensure regular medical checkup, avoid excessive alcohol consumption, tobacco, and sugary foods.

STEER CLEAR!Here Are 6 Different Foods That Can Make You Look Older

Look younger by avoiding these foods whenever possible.

Candy bars

Surprise, surprise: Tossing back candy isn’t great for the aging process. To understand how sugar can lead to older-looking skin, it’s important to consider the two proteins that keep skin looking fresh and youthful: collagen and elastin. Anything that interferes with these proteins is going to have a negative effect—and sugar is one of their biggest enemies. As sugar is digested, it leaves behind debris known as advanced glycation end products, or AGEs. Over time, these AGEs build up and attach themselves to collagen, which can lead to wrinkles and sagging. Keeping those AGEs in check is key to healthy, youthful skin. And the first step is cutting the sugar.

Charred meat

Ever look at the black char on your barbequed steak and wonder how that could possibly be healthy? Turns out, it’s not. Charred meat often contains pro-inflammatory hydrocarbons. That’s no good since inflammation can break down your skin’s precious collagen. Scrape it off with your fork instead.

Alcohol

Obviously, no one looks their best the morning after too many drinks. But the effects of alcohol on your liver are even more harmful. When your liver is functioning well, toxins that could potentially affect the skin are expelled naturally through your body. But if toxins build up in your liver, and aren’t broken down properly, your skin can develop a variety of issues, like acne, sallowness, and wrinkles.

Margarine

This popular alternative to butter could be damaging your skin. People who regularly used margarine have more wrinkles than people who don’t. The correlation likely exists because the specific type of fat in margarine can increase inflammation.

Salty foods

Anything with a high amount of sodium—think cured meats, soups, and potato chips—is going to dry out your skin. Excess salt in the body draws more fluid out of the cells to help neutralize the salt and draw it out of the body. As a result, your skin gets drier because of the lack of fluid. That could lead to a wrinkled look—the opposite of fresh, dewy skin.

Coffee

You might rely on your morning cup of Joe to wake you up, but it’s important to have a glass of water too. Caffeine can dehydrate skin, which accentuates the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. Adding cream and sugar could also damage the formation of collagen.

BEDTIME! The Following Foods Are The Best Choices You Can Eat To Get A Good Night’s Sleep

It’s hard to imagine a more frustrating feeling than lying in your bed trying to fall asleep without the sandman coming by to help in the hours after you’ve turned off the lights. Sleep along with diet, stress management, physical activity, and carcinogen avoidance have in recent years become more and more involved in helping the medical field create the picture for a healthy lifestyle.

Related image

There is a large body of scientific work which suggests that sleep-deprived individuals seek out easily palatable foods such as the simple sugars and heavy-hitting carbohydrates found in typical junk food. It’s speculated that as the number of hours between sleeps increases, the brain tries to find larger sources of energy in order to keep itself awake. This is why certain countries – like Denmark – labeled nighttime shift work as a possible carcinogen. However, there are a number of foods which seem to reduce the time it takes to fall asleep and improve overall sleep quality. So which foods are they? Notepads out, ladies and gentlemen.

Protein-rich food sources such as red meat, poultry, eggs, and fish are perfect examples. Fish is an especially good choice due to the presence of essential B vitamins while fish with bones, such as mackerel, sardines, and anchovies are even better for attaining good quality sleep due to the magnesium content. They are also present in beans, lentils, and tofu. Nuts and seeds, such as cashews, almonds, flaxseeds, pistachios, chia seeds, sunflower seeds, hazelnuts, and especially pumpkin seeds.

Finally, if you find yourself starting to feel less peckish, chamomile tea (though not technically a food) has been shown to improve sleep quality and help people fall asleep 15 minutes fasterthan non-tea drinkers. But if you’re a busy bee and you’ve left it late, cheese, partly-skimmed milk, or a small banana are all good options if you find yourself hungry just before bedtime.

FACT! Did You Know That Being Single Will Kill You Faster Than Being Fat? Let’s Get Dating!

Loneliness is deadlier than obesity and should be considered a public health risk, experts have warned. Those with bad social connections have a 50 percent increased risk of early death compared to those with good social connections, a review of studies on loneliness suggests. Researchers in the US looked at 218 studies into the health effects of loneliness and social isolation. They discovered that social isolation raised a person’s risk of death by half compared to obesity, which raised the risk of death by just 30 percent.

Image result for Being single will kill you faster than obesity, study says

Dr. Julianne Holt-Lunstad, lead author and professor of psychology at Brigham Young University, said: “Being connected to others socially is widely considered a fundamental human need, crucial to both well-being and survival. Extreme examples show infants in custodial care who lack human contact fail to thrive and often die, and indeed, social isolation or solitary confinement has been used as a form of punishment. Yet an increasing portion of the US population now experiences isolation regularly.”

Feeling lonely is thought to make people feel worse mentally and physically — and those who are lonely tend to suffer worse symptoms when they are unwell than those who aren’t.  Holt-Lunstad added: “There is robust evidence that social isolation and loneliness significantly increase risk for premature mortality, and the magnitude of the risk exceeds that of many leading health indicators. With an increasing aging population, the effect on public health is only anticipated to increase. Indeed, many nations around the world now suggest we are facing a ‘loneliness epidemic.’ The challenge we face now is what can be done about it.”

She suggested greater priority be placed on research and resources to tackle loneliness such as social skills for children in schools. Previous research has suggested that solitary adults reported much more severe symptoms when they were unwell. A study by Rice University in Texas found that, while they were no more likely to catch a cold, lonely adults felt far worse when they did. Experts said GPs should factor in a patient’s social circumstances when treating them.

BIG QUESTION?! Could Dogs Be The Answer To The Nigeria’s Battle Against Malaria?

Continuing the global battle against malaria, scientists are using a novel tool for the fight: sniffer dogs. In recent tests, trained sniffer dogs were able to successfully diagnose malaria infections simply by sniffing samples from socks worn briefly by children from a malaria endemic area of West Africa, according to a new study presented today by the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH).

Image result for Dogs Could Be the Key to Turning the Tide Against Malaria

“People with malaria parasites generate distinct odors on their skin and our study found dogs, which have an incredibly sensitive sense of smell, can be trained to detect these odors even when it’s just on an article of clothing worn by an infected person,” said Steven Lindsay, the lead investigator on the study. The canine malaria detection work was supported by a Grand Challenges grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which is seeking, among other things, new ways of diagnosing the disease that are non-invasive and quick. New tools are urgently needed because, after more than a decade of dramatic reductions in malaria infections and deaths, over the last two years the world has experienced a slight increase in both.

Image result for Dogs Could Be the Key to Turning the Tide Against Malaria

The researchers said the accuracy of the dogs was impressive and they were identifying malaria infected children with lower levels of parasites than required to meet clinical standards for rapid diagnostic tests set by the World Health Organization (WHO). However, in the future this work needs to be expanded with more samples tested from different parts of Africa. However, Lindsay and his colleagues said their work was only designed to be a “proof of concept study” to show that malaria diagnosis by dogs is possible. They believe that with more training and more samples, the dogs could end up with an accuracy that would be comparable to a clinical test.

Related image

As for putting malaria detection dogs to work in the field, Lindsay said they could be helpful assistants in a malaria elimination campaign that requires treating anyone in a village or community who is still carrying malaria parasites, including those who are not showing symptoms. Currently, the only way to address the problem of “asymptomatic” carriers – who still can cause new infections by passing along their malaria parasites to the local mosquito population – is to test or treat an entire community.

Image result for Dogs Could Be the Key to Turning the Tide Against Malaria

The dogs could also be useful for ports of entry into countries which eliminated malaria or are close to elimination. With this innovative approach, these researchers show that new tools to tackle malaria can come from unexpected places.

WARNING! Here Are 7 Annoying Things Your Neighbors Want You to Stop Doing

It’s not big deal to you, but your neighbors are rolling their eyes! Here are 8 things that your neighbors want you to stop doing;

Pet neglect

There are many forms of pet neglect that are just rude! Leaving your dog chained up outside all day and letting it bark in distress is just as distressing to your neighbors. Another type of neglect would be piles of poop all over your yard. Not only is it gross not to pick up your animal’s business so they have a fresh patch of grass for later, but the appearance and smell of it are enough to drive passersby berserk! If you’re concerned about your neighbors’ thoughts.

Abandonment

A collection of rusty cars in the front yard is not a sight for sore eyes. You may be proud of the collection you’re working on, or plan to work on, but all anyone else sees is a load of junk! The same goes for abandoned toys, bikes, gardening tools, etc.

Forgetting to mow your lawn

Your yard doesn’t have to look perfect to please your neighbors, but overgrown grass just makes a home look deserted, and brings down the value of the entire neighborhood. Rule of thumb: During the growing season, mowing once a week should suffice. The rest of the time, cutting every other week will do.

Not bringing your trash bins in from the street

Trash day was Monday, but it’s Wednesday and your busy schedule has lead you past your trash bins on the street two days in a row for that restful seat on the couch inside your cozy home. While you may not care, your neighbors have to wake up to the eyesore on the street each morning, so just take the extra time and roll them in!

Being too pushy

Yes, saying hello when you pass your neighbor is generally expected, but stopping every time to catch up, or even knocking on their door regularly with a muffin they have to try or Girl Scout cookies they need to purchase to help your kid out, isn’t friendly—it’s pushy. Be kind, but let your neighbors have their space.

Man ringing the doorbell on the street

Being overly concerned

If you’re the type of person who is constantly keeping your neighbor up to date about a lurking stranger in the area, a rogue raccoon or a weather alert, back off. Your neighbors are adults, and while it’s nice to keep them in the know, use discretion and don’t overdo the warnings.

Hanging laundry over the fence

So, you and your neighbor built a fence to define your space. That’s good! But, if you’re constantly draping your wet towels or other laundry over the fence that’s just annoying. Keep the peace by keeping your stuff on your side of the fence.
