Chelsea player about to break Kelechi Iheanacho’s record

Chelsea have slapped a £50 million price tag on England U21 star of Nigerian descent Tammy Abraham amid interest from Premier League clubs, according to reports. It is reported Aston Villa are confident they have won the battle to keep Tammy Abraham on loan this month with Chelsea asking up to £50 million (approximately N22.8 billion in Nigerian currency) to buy the striker. Image result for tammy abraham

The likes of Crystal Palace and Wolverhampton Wanderers who have been credited with an interest in the striker may be put off by the asking price. The highest fee Palace have paid to sign a player is the £27 million paid to Liverpool for Christian Benteke in August 2016 while Wolves’ record transfer is Adama Traoré’s move from Middlesbrough which cost £18 million.

Iheancho escapes Leicester axe as Puel hints at potential departures

Leicester boss Claude Puel will leave out his wantaway players for the Foxes’ FA Cup trip to Newport and Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho is not on the list despite not having enough playing time or painting the premier league with goals.

The Frenchman is expected to make several changes for Sunday’s third-round game at Rodney Parade.

Andy King, Adrien Silva and Danny Simpson could have played having fallen out of favour under Puel in the top flight – with the former omitted from the Premier League squad.

Vicente Iborra may also leave and has also been granted time in Spain with his family and will not feature. With moves possible in the January transfer window Puel may omit all of them.

He told a press conference: “Perhaps some players will not all be focused on this competition because they think about their futures in this transfer window. I need to take some feeling about them.

“I have to make sure about the players that they have good focus, good concentration in this competition.

“Some players do not have all the focus because in their thoughts, they think about their future in this transfer window period.”

King has won League One, the Championship and the Premier League with the Foxes, making 378 appearances after coming through the ranks.

He has not played for the club for a year after being loaned to Swansea 12 months ago, while Iborra has played just 11 times this term and Silva has not featured in the league since August.

“We will see with them. There are clubs interested but we need to keep the balance. Perhaps there will be opportunities for them,” said Puel. “Andy is a fantastic professional, a legend for Leicester City. We have to respect him.

“He wants more game-time, this is a normal thing. I hope we can give the opportunity to move and to enjoy his football.”

Wes Morgan is fit after missing the last two games through illness but Daniel Amartey (broken ankle) remains out. “Wes came back to the training session, he is match fit. He is ready for the game,” said Puel.

“We have a squad with players close (in ability) between themselves, we need to use all the possibilities of the squad to maintain the freshness with the possibility to compete all the time. We need to find the right balance between quality and freshness.”

It has been a miserable festive period so far for Guardiola’s side, who have now twice surprisingly been beaten after scoring the game’s opening goal. As festive periods go, this has been a miserable one for City who have now slipped seven points behind leaders Liverpool whose closest challengers are now Tottenham – six points back of the leaders.

Ricardo Pereira’s superb 81st-minute strike secured a 2-1 win for Leicester City as Manchester City fell further behind in the title race. The champions’ misery was compounded by a straight red card for Fabian Delph in the dying moments, with referee Mike Dean deeming his challenge on Pereira as dangerous.

Fabian Delph is sent off to compound Manchester City’s misery at the King Power Stadium.

So, a largely miserable Christmas for City who are clearly out of sorts at present and need to get back to winning ways as soon as possible.  Leicester are at home to Cardiff City on Saturday, 29 December and they play at Everton on Tuesday, 1 January.

A run of only one win in eight matches in all competitions had led to speculation concerning the future of Foxes manager Claude Puel. However, his side have responded by winning 1-0 at Chelsea on Saturday and now became only the third side to beat Manchester City in the league this season.

Despite conceding so early on, Leicester’s players quickly got themselves back into it and ended the first half strongly with Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson saving efforts from Vardy, James Maddison and Hamza Choudhury.

For Manchester City, they will be trying to get back to winning ways at Southampton on 30 December, before a home game against league leaders Liverpool on 3 January.

Leicester City coach makes shocking revelation about Kelechi Iheanacho

Leicester City attacker, Kelechi Iheanacho is set for a return to the shadows at King Power Stadium, as The Foxes’ top scorer, Jamie Vardy is back from injury. Heading into Saturday’s English Premier League fixture away to Chelsea, Iheanacho is bound to return to the bench, as Leicester’s boss, Claude Puel admits he is happy to have Vardy back.

Puel inadvertently reeled out assets which the English striker has that put him ahead of Iheanacho – quality, aggressiveness, capacity and character. Vardy has scored 20 Premier League goals since Puel replaced Craig Shakespeare as Foxes boss in October last year but the forward has often looked isolated in games.

The striker netted 24 goals to help fire Leicester to the Premier League title in 2016, with the Foxes playing a more incisive and direct brand of football under former boss Claudio Ranieri. Though Vardy says he is struggling to adapt to Puel’s style, the French gaffer still rates him high and believes the England ex-international has better qualities and ability than Iheanacho.

Vardy returned from a groin injury in the weekend’s 1-0 loss at Crystal Palace and, though Puel did not want to rush him back to action, the coach is happy his top scorer should be in action at Stamford Bridge.

Puel said: “We need Jamie – with his ability, capacity and character – to give his best. With his quality and his aggressiveness, he is a very good player for us. “Of course, it has been difficult for him with injuries and suspensions this season, but he is a valuable player for us and we need Jamie to be at his best for us.”

Super Eagles star in trouble as Premier League boss cancel rival exit plans

Times may change for Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi if reports about Mesut Ozil is true. Mesut Ozil continues to generate plenty of transfer talk at Arsenal, but Unai Emery says the World Cup winner is still needed within his plans. The German playmaker has fallen out of favour at Emirates Stadium of late, with his manager favouring other options.

Ozil failed to make the matchday squad for a Carabao Cup quarter-final derby date with Tottenham on Wednesday, with Emery citing “tactical decisions” for his omission. With uncertainty reigning in north London, it was been suggested that a January move may be on the cards – with Serie A giants Inter among those credited with holding an interest.

Despite being initially reluctant to discuss Ozil’s future, as he offered one-word answers to the assembled press, the Arsenal boss did eventually elaborate on his plans. He told reporters ahead of their Premier League clash with Burnley on Saturday: “I want every player with a good mentality to help us. He can give us his quality and his characteristics. We need Mesut Ozil.”

“Every player wants to play and help the team when we need them. The frustration is the same for everybody when they haven’t played a match. I have told him what we need from him. He has the commitment to help us and the quality and the characteristics to help us when the team need him on the pitch. Tomorrow he is in the 18 players in the squad.”

Pressed again on whether Ozil’s future lies at Arsenal, Emery said: “Yes, why not?”

SHOCKER! Ndidi, Iheanacho and their Leicester teammates reportedly “GANGED UP” against their coach

Super Eagles duo Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho manager at Leicester City Claude Puel is facing a battle against the sack, with Leicester’s Christmas schedule the potential final stage of his tenure. Leicester play Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, before hosting Manchester City on Boxing Day and Cardiff on December 29. The team’s displays in those games is expected to determine the decision over his future. Losing to Neil Warnock’s side would be viewed as unpalatable. The Leicester manager fought back from the brink of dismissal at the end of last season by beating Arsenal but the deep problems of his reign have persisted. One source told Sportsmail Puel’s relationship with his players and staff has deteriorated to an all-time low. There are also issues over selections, style, and communication. There are allegations he has ‘lost everyone’.

Sportsmail understands a high-profile manager is even being targeted as a possible successor. Brendan Rodgers has previously been discussed and is set to leave Celtic next summer. Rafa Benitez is another potential candidate but his circumstances at Newcastle have settled. Vice-chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, known as Top, will make the call on Puel after assuming full responsibility following his father Vichai’s death in October. Deliberations over the Frenchman have been ongoing since the start of the campaign but were set well aside after the helicopter tragedy. Puel conducted himself with great dignity in an incredibly difficult period and everyone at the club is still trying to come to terms with the loss of Vichai. But there is also concern at the continuing tensions at Belvoir Drive and an awareness among the hierarchy the situation is critical. Multiple sources have told Sportsmail that Puel cuts an isolated figure, declining to act on the advice of colleagues regarding training performances or fitness issues, and causing widespread disillusionment in a repeat of his Southampton reign.

His treatment of Adrien Silva and Andy King has caused confusion. Silva, the £22million Portugal midfielder, is a consistently high performer in training yet has been frozen out. King, the club legend, was not named in the Premier League squad. Neither made the 18 for Tuesday’s Carabao Cup quarter-final against Manchester City. Puel antagonised some fans by picking a weakened side despite being three matches from Wembley. James Maddison and Marc Albrighton started on the bench, while Jamie Vardy was left out entirely. Puel had played Vardy for 90 minutes at Crystal Palace three days earlier despite medical advice suggesting an hour, given the striker was returning from a groin injury.

Supporters have also been frustrated with style of play, as Puel advocates a slower build-up of attack. Vardy, who is expected to start at Stamford Bridge, told Sky Sports News on Friday that approach did not suit his game. ‘Does it? No. But is that down to me to adapt to it? Yes,’ he said. ‘And obviously the only way I’m going to do that and keep progressing is working hard on the training field.’ Vardy thrives on quick balls but has found himself making runs without success. ‘It does get a bit frustrating but we are transitioning into a different style of play,’ he added.

Results would cover gripes, but these have declined badly. It is two victories in 10 matches and after a positive start to his time Puel’s last 38 Premier League games read 11 win, 10 losses and 17 defeats, equating to a points total of 43 across the course of a campaign. For a club of Leicester’s aspirations, it is a tally to alarm.
