This Anglican Archbishop Is Warning Pastors

The Anglican Archbishop of Lokoja, the Most Rev. Emmanuel Egbunu, on Friday in Abuja, warned newly-consecrated Bishops of the church to guard against “repackaging the gospel”, for selfish and pecuniary interests.

Egbunu gave the charge in his sermon during the consecration service of Bishops Chukwuma Oparah of Owerri Diocese, Godfrey Ekpenisi of Ika Diocese and Jezerel Vandeh of Zaki-Biam Diocese.

The cleric told the newest members of the 164-strong House of Bishops of the Anglican Church in Nigeria that the “position of a Bishop is prone to arrogance and dangerous assumptions”.

“We must be careful because God’s standards cannot be adjusted for anybody…no Christian, whether bishop, clergy or laity, has the licence to alter the gospel of Jesus Christ,” the clergyman said.

He added that those that were ordained into the ministry must guard against compromising the gospel as proclaimed by Jesus Christ.

“Like Timothy, you must guard the gospel. Keep safe what has been entrusted to you.

“In the name of sophistication some of us have lost the Gospel,” Egbunu said in the sermon at the consecration service at St Bartholomew’s Church, Kubwa.

At the service which was presided by the Primate of the Anglican Church, Archbishop Nicholas Okoh, Egbunu expressed concern about divisions and immorality in the church, warning Christians to guard against carnality.

“We are in church but there are scandalous things that we need to pay attention to like those mentioned in Paul’s First Letter to the Corinthians,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the major highpoint of the consecration service was the oath taking by the new bishops denouncing homosexuality and cultism.

In separate declarations, the new bishops said: “I confess before God and His Church that I am not a member of any secret cult.

I also vow that I will never join any secret cult and I owe allegiance to no other, but to the Lord Jesus Christ and my loyalty to Him will always remain absolute, total and undivided.”

While laying hands on the bishops, the Primate declared: “Take this staff, be a shepherd and not a wolf to the flock of Christ.

“Feed them and do not devour them. Seek the lost, uphold the weak, restore health to the sick, lift the down trodden. Ensure discipline but forget not mercy. Be so merciful and be not too remiss.

“May the Spirit of the Chief Shepherd guide you.”

Lagos approves use of hijab in public schools

The Lagos state government has given a go ahead to Muslim female pupils to use hijab in public schools.

The development was announced in a circular by the state’s area unit of the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN).

A Lagos high court had in October 2014, ruled against the use of hijabs in schools, a judgement that was upturned by an appeal court in July 2016.

In a unanimous judgment, the appeal court noted that the ban was discriminatory against Muslim pupils in Lagos state.

Dissatisfied with the appellate court’s judgment, the state government took the case to the supreme court.

It subsequently placed a ban on the use of hijab in August 2018.

However, in a new circular, the state government asked that status quo be maintained in order to avoid contempt of court.

It however said the hijab must be “short, smart, neat and in the same colour of the uniform (skirt).

“Since the case of the use of Hijab in Lagos State is still pending in the Supreme court of Nigeria, status quo be maintained, to avoid contempt of the court, that is students be allowed to wear Hijabs on school uniforms but same must be short, smart, neat and in the same colour of the uniform (skirt),” the circular read.

“Furthermore, schools management are advised to downplay comments and disciplinary actions on the use of smart Hijabs until the final determination of the case by Supreme Court.

“No student should be discriminated against in any form on the basis of religion.

“All principals and teachers must be sensitized to comply accordingly. You are enjoined to adhere strictly to these recommendations.”

Reacting to the development, MSSN, in a statement by Saheed Ashafa, its amir in Lagos, said the state government has towed the path of honour.

Ashafa said the circular would help to stop the  “harassment and victimisation of female Muslim students for wearing hijab.”

“We are pleased with this development because the embarrassing way and manner that our members are being victimised, harassed, punished and denied entrance into their classrooms for wearing hijab would stop,” the statement read.

“We have constantly told the state government that while a case on the hijab is awaiting final verdict at the Supreme Court, no teacher has the right to punish female pupils for wearing hijab. The Appeal Court in the case clearly states that wearing hijab by students, whether within or outside the school premises was a fundamental Human Right entrenched in the constitution.

“It is important to notify you that we will not allow further lawlessness and flagrant disregard for rule of law to stay after this circular. The circular would also help to stop the abuse of rights which could have degenerated into crisis or violence that may lead to the disruption of activities in schools in our dear state.

“We commend this intervention aimed at calling teachers, principals and tutor general to order. This circular approving wearing of hijab by students on their school uniform within and outside school premises, will ensure peace and order in our schools and stability in the state’s education system.

“We hereby call on female muslim students to enjoy their rights without fear of molestation. While exhibiting their rights, they should remain law abiding and be good ambassadors of the religion of peace.”

2019 Elections: Christian Association of Nigeria Makes Big Move

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) are not taking a back seat as the 2019 General Elections is drawing further near.

The body has said it is organising a three-day session of praise and worship in anticipation of “victory in the forthcoming general elections”.

In a statement on Saturday, the association said the praise and worship session is also to serve as a form of prayer for Divine Intervention against possible attempts to manipulate the outcome of the 2019 elections.

Although the statement was signed by Adebayo Oladeji, the special assistant to the CAN President, Samson Ayokunle, the CAN statement said the directive was given by its acting general secretary, Joseph Daramola.

The association, in the statement, called on all churches across the country to join in the three days program of praise and worship, which is intended to hold November 18 to 20.

“The leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has declared 18-20 November, 2018 as days of Non -Stop Praise of God for the much-awaited Divine Intervention over the next year general election and other problems facing the country.

“The “72 hours Praise and Worship” is to be organized in all churches nationwide between 18th November, 2018 – 20th November, 2018 as from 7:00 am on the 18th – 6:00 pm 20th November, 2018.

“The Programme is to celebrate the envisaged victory Nigeria is going to experience over economic, security challenges, social, religious and political problems we are facing as a Nation.

“CAN, through the Acting General Secretary, Barrister Joseph Daramola, has asked all bloc leaders and their Secretaries, all Zonal chairmen, all State Chairmen and all denominational leaders to organize their church members in non-stop praise of God’s majesty over the victory he has given us in Nigeria on all our challenges, especially His intervention over the coming general election.

“Having noted various challenges the country is going through, the CAN Leadership considered the need for us to organize a strategic three days of non-stop praise over them in the country (as was done in the Bible in 2 Chronicles Chapter 20), especially the forthcoming 2019 elections with a view to stopping a crisis-ridden election that will not be free, fair and credible.

According to the statement, the three days or praise and worship is about the victory that God has given the church in Nigeria against the forces of darkness.

“The praise is also about the victory we believe God has given the Church in Nigeria over all powers of darkness that want to engulf the Church in whatever guise. We should praise God that bloodshed will be no more in Nigeria. A bad leader will not be elected as our President in 2019. All human efforts to manipulate elections will fail and Leah Sharibu and all those in captivity will be released.

“All churches in the country are urged to participate in the programme to usher the country into a new era of peace, unity, safety and all round prosperity.”

CAN has never hidden their displeasure at President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, accusing the President of nepotism and alleged violation of the federal character in crucial appointments of government.

Churches, Mosques, In Northern Nigeria, Receives Immediate Marching Order From Above

Abdullahi said: “The Management of Kaduna Electric, wishes to once again draw the attention of religious Leaders, Imans, and Pastors, their faithfuls and the entire citizens, that places of worship, Mosques and Churches, and other religious Institutions, are obligated like other electricity users to pay their electricity bills every month.”

REVEALED: Tope Alabi Opens Up On The Mystery Behind ‘Logan Ti Ode’

‘Logan Ti Ode’ is a new song from Tope Alabi and TY Bello.

Within hours it was released on the internet, the song went viral with many, who were inspired by it, appreciating the power of the song.

Describing how she felt about the acceptance of the viral music, Alabi said she had no idea she would become a successful gospel artiste.

Citing her first two albums as an example, the singer recalled how gospel songs were poorly accepted at the start of her music career.

Tope Alabi

“The Holy Spirit gave me about 16 songs on the spot on the day we recorded, ‘Logan Ti Ode.’ It was not planned, we were supposed to be singing together but the Holy Spirit had other plans for us. It was after the whole thing that TY Bello revealed to me that the Holy Spirit told her to keep quiet while I sang.

“There was none of my old songs on that track; it was supposed to be a photo shoot and a moment of worship. So, when we finished the photo shoot, TY Bello called a keyboardist and a drummer to join us; the plan was just to do a family worship. However, immediately I noticed the presence of the Holy Spirit, I had to suspend what I was doing prior to that time and I followed His leading.

Tope Alabi

“I am still in awe of how the song went viral within a short time; some of my songs had gone viral like this before but this is exceptional. When I started gospel music, I didn’t expect to be this famous; I am even afraid because the fame and fans are overwhelming. I am afraid because I fear God.

“What if I had been discouraged when my music was not paying my bills? I used to struggle to pay my children’s school fees. I once hired a bus for my band members and had to pay by instalments,” she said.

She recalled how some marketers she had taken copies of her first album to, asked her to come and take them away as no one was buying.

Tope Alabi

“When I gave the compact discs to some marketers, they asked me to come and take them back because people were not buying them. I was very discouraged; I made up my mind not to sing again. I told God that there was no way I would do music as there were other things I could do that would fetch money for me.

“Four years after, I did another album and people still did not buy it. It wasn’t until I added another song that people started buying the album,” she added.

Interestingly when she was young, Alabi’s parents wanted her to become a Sister as according to her, they knew she would work for God.

Tope Alabi

“When I was about seven years old, my parents told me God was going to use me but I didn’t believe them, they actually thought I was going to be a Sister because I was born into a Catholic family.

“I told them I didn’t want to be a Sister even though I loved Catholicism. They were worried that I didn’t want to go to the convent. My mother always insisted that I would work for God. Interestingly, I got my style of singing from my mother. Sometimes, when I sing, I listen to her voice in me,” she told Saturday Beats.

The pastor who made headlines following his viral sex video scandal, appears to have bounced back as the cleric was seen leading a praise and worship session today in Lagos with his members in happy and dancing mood.

The pastor, Apostle Chris Omatsola, who has apologised to Nigerians and his ex-fiancee Princess Tamaratokoni Okpewho who was featured in the sex tape, reportedly relocated his church (Zionwealth Of Life Assembly in Lekki area of Lagos) over threats that trailed the release of the clip. The pastor revealed that the new location of his ministry was only known to core members because he feared for his life and those of his members.

The cleric, who is the Presiding Pastor of Zionwealth of Life Assembly, and his former lover, Tamaratokoni Okpe, had a clash over a sex video, which was leaked on the Internet. The two estranged lovers, who allegedly dated for about seven months, reportedly had sexual intercourse during the fling, which was filmed by Omatsola.

Shortly after things fell apart between them, the sex video emerged on the Internet. Okpe had accused Omatsola of releasing the video to force her into marriage with him, while the cleric denied the claim, saying the video was leaked to blackmail him. He alleged that Okpe demanded N200m from him.

An embattled cleric, Apostle Chris Omatsola, who is at the centre of a viral sex video scandal, has relocated his church over threats that trailed the release of the clip. Omatsola told PUNCH Metro on Sunday that the new location of his ministry was only known to core members.

This was after one of our correspondents visited two locations of the church in the Lekki and Ajah areas of Lagos on Sunday to see the effect of the incident on members. Nobody was seen at both locations. Some residents of the areas told one of our correspondents that they did not know anything about the church.  When PUNCH Metro called Omatsola’s telephone line, a man who picked the call said the pastor had become depressed by media attacks and public criticisms, adding that he was not available for comments.

Our correspondent, however, insisted on speaking to the pastor.
When Omatsola eventually agreed to speak, he said he had relocated his ministry because he feared for his life and those of his members.
