Health Tips! Check out the risks and benefits of eating Beans

Beans contain a wide range of cancer-fighting plant chemicals, specifically, isoflavones and phytosterols which are associated with reduced cancer risk.

Health Benefit: Beans Can Lower Cholesterol

Beans provide the body with soluble fiber, which plays an important role in controlling blood cholesterol levels.

Studies find that about 10 grams of soluble fiber a day—the amount in 1/2 to 1 1/2 cups of navy beans—reduces LDL cholesterol by about 10 percent. Beans also contain saponins and phytosterols, which help lower cholesterol.

Health Benefit: Beans Can Help You Lose Weight

A serving of beans will help you feel full more quickly because the rich fiber content fills your stomach and causes a slower rise in blood sugar.

That should stave off hunger longer and give you a steady supply of energy.

Health Benefit: Beans Can Help Manage Diabetes

Beans are a diabetes sufferer’s superfood! The balance of complex carbohydrates and protein provides a slow, steady source of glucose instead of the sudden surge that can occur after eating simple carbohydrates.

Health Risk: Beans Can Cause Migraines

Some legumes can trigger migraines or an allergic reaction in some people. If this happens, talk to a doctor and eliminate the culprit from your diet.

Health Risk: Beans Can Raise Blood Pressure

If you take a monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitor to treat depression, avoid fava beans because they can interact with your medication and raise blood pressure.

Health Risk: Beans Can Interfere With Vitamin Absorption

Some beans, like soybeans, contain substances that interfere with the absorption of betacarotene and vitamins B12 and D.

The heat from cooking inactivates most of these substances, making vitamin absorption more likely.

But it’s still smart to compensate for potential vitamin loss by consuming plenty of fresh fruits and yellow or dark green veggies (to up your beta carotene) and lean meat (for vitamin B12).

Health Risk: Beans Can Trigger Gout

If you suffer from gout, talk to your doctor about your bean consumption. People with gout are often advised to forgo dried peas, beans, lentils, and other legumes because of their high purine content.

In susceptible people, purines increase levels of uric acid and can precipitate a gout attack.

Health Risk: Beans can make you gassy

While not technically a health risk, beans can cause an embarrassing flatulence problem, particularly dried beans, lentils, and peas.

Help reduce gas production by changing the water several times during the soaking and cooking process, and always rinse canned beans. Adding herbs like lemon balm, fennel, and caraway, or combining cooked legumes with acidic food, might also help prevent flatulence.

Weight loss meal plan

When hearing “meal plan”, many people imagine some scary pictures with hunger and being unsatisfied. But it’s not like this. A weight loss plan should only include three main rules, which are:

Significantly reduce the appetite

Do not use hunger as a way to lose weight

Improve the metabolic health

As you can see, none of these “rules” include hunger. We can say even more, these rules support eating itself. Because, for example, improving your metabolic health is possible only due to food.

To follow a weight loss diet, there is no need to a lot of efforts. The most important are regularity and attention.

Weight loss tips

Of course, apart from eating any food, even that one which helps with a weight loss, there must be some rules or tips on how to take the maximum efficiency from that.

Take a look at the main weight loss tips:

  1. Don’t skip breakfast. Your organism gets the essential nutrients during the first food you eat in a day and that will help you feel less hunger during the whole day.
  2. Eat regular meals. It helps to burn calories much faster and reduces the temptation to snack with foods high in fat and sugar.
  3. Eat a lot of fruit and vegetables. Fruits and veggies are always low in calories. It is the best food to choose in case you want to lose weight.
  4. Get more active. Some exercises are the best way to lose weight and keep fit for a long time. As a plus, it gives a lot of health benefits. And exercise with a weight loss diet is a key to success.
  5. Drink plenty of water. It happens very often that people confuse thirst with hunger. Drinking water in such case is really what you need. And a glass of water is much better than getting some extra calories.
  6. Eat high fibre foods. Such food gives you an opportunity to feel full for a really long time. Fibre is mostly found in such food as fruit and vegetables, oats, wholegrain bread, brown rice and pasta, beans and so on.
  7. Use smaller plate. Logically, if you use smaller plate, you eat smaller portions. It usually takes about 20 minutes for our stomach to tell our brain that it’s full.
  8. Don’t ban foods. It means that you don’t have to avoid any food, especially the one you like. If you don’t let yourself eat something, you will want it even more than before. And who needs such diet then?
  9. Plan your meals. Make sure you stick to your calorie allowance during breakfast, dinner, lunch, snacks etc.

As you can see, it is not difficult to eat healthy and lose weight while eating something. And there is a very long list of foods you can eat or add to your general meal. Eating the food types we mentioned above is good not only for a weight loss diet, but for your health as well.

Must Read: How Scientist Are Using Gene-editing To Make Tomatoes Spicy Like Chilli Pepper

Plant physiologists are trying to make the world’s first spicy tomato using a gene-editing tool called Crispr-Cas9. However, CRISPR is a revolutionary genetic editing technique that’s been hailed a game-changer in science. The method allows scientists to effectively ‘cut and paste’ small sections of DNA out of a genome and replace or delete harmful genes. It’s believed it can be used to correct genetic defects, treat and prevent the spread of diseases and even create designer babies in the future.

Researchers in Brazil and Ireland are looking to activate genes in tomatoes which produce the heat found in spicy foods such as chilli peppers. Scientists found that capsaicinoid genes exist in tomatoes already, but the fruit needs editing so the fiery notes come to life and give us the telltale hit of warmth when eating.

Gene editing helps improve cultivation around the world (Photo by Sean Gallup/Getty Images) Spicy tomatoes The proposed process, first published in the journal Trends in Plant Science, explained that tomatoes with the same qualities as chillis would likely prove revolutionary to farming.

Tomatoes have a yield capacity some 30 times higher than chillis, so are more efficient, practical, and cost-effective to grow.

“The proof of concept here is that we can transfer the unique thing endemic to a less-produced plant into another plant that is more widely produced,” Lázaro E.P. Peres, co-author of the study and professor of plant physiology at the University of São Paulo.

Tomatoes are a model species and one that is “highly amenable to biotechnological manipulation,” the research paper said. Peppers required specific growing conditions in order to flourish. Crops are inconsistent which means heat, flavour, and pungency are not always in line with expectations.

Farming improvements A typical yield of hot peppers is about three tonnes per hectare and takes between four and five months to farm. Tomatoes grow at around 110 tonnes per hectare and take just 120 days. Agustin Zsögön, from the Federal University of Viçosa in Brazil, and co-author, told the Guardian: “You could produce in a more cost-effective manner.

“All the genes to produce capsaicinoids exist in the tomato, they are just not active. There is the fun side…and there [are] the potentially interesting applications for agriculture.”

Spicy tomato seeds are some way off, but the scientists behind the study do think they’re a real possibility, and farmers will one day be able to grow hot versions of it.

The ingredients for edikaikong soup

So, before you find out how to cook edikaikong, you should learn a list of quite unusual products for this dish. The ingredients for edikaikong are as follows:

  • 1 kilogram of Pumpkin leaves.
  • 500 grams of Waterleaves or Talinum Triangulare.
  • 500 grams of meat (the different sorts are desirable).
  • 200 grams of Periwinkle.
  • 1 cup of palm oil.
  • 1 onion.
  • 1 stockfish.
  • 2 smoked fishes medium in size.
  • 165 grams of shrimps.
  • Several yellow peppers.
  • 1 crushed crayfish.
  • Black pepper and salt to taste.

Sometimes it’s hard to find these ingredients if you live outside of Nigeria. You can change the edikaikong recipe in this situation. Pumpkin and Water Leaves, Periwinkle are easily replaceable by more widespread ingredients such as spinach and lettuce. The taste will change a little, but the soup still will be delicious.

How to prepare edikaikong soup?

The first and the main advice on how to make edikaikong soup properly is the right preparation of ingredients. It means that we should wash them carefully and let them dry. Next, you should chop the vegetables – periwinkle, pumpkin and water leaves. The smaller the pieces are the better for us. With meat, we do the same and roast it in a deep pan with the onion and stock cubes. Pour off the excess water, because only palm oil is the liquid for the soup.

When meat is almost done you should add the palm oil, shredded yellow pepper, and crayfish. They must boil in oil for 10-15 minutes. It’s necessary to taste this mixture for pepper and salt, add the needed amount and move on to the next step of cooking.

Then, we add water leaves, pumpkin leaves, and periwinkle, mix everything and leave for several minutes to boil. Take care of ingredients, they mustn’t be overdone. Now we only need to add the rest of the ingredients – all seafood and stock cube – stir them carefully and cover the pan. The soup must boil on low heat for 4-5 minutes. After that, you must turn off the fire and let the soup brew from 5 to 10 minutes and it will be done.

Now you know how to cook edikaikong soup! This delicious dish will be to the liking of the pickiest eaters. It is an amazing soup, which helps us to get closer with the Nigerian culture, and it is an irreplaceable meal for our health, because its ingredients are rich in vitamins and microelements.

Everybody wants to eat good, delicious and mouthwatering food. But how many people are willing to cook? The fact is that there are several people out there who hate cooking.Interestingly, this is not peculiar to guys alone. I have met ladies who don’t like spending time in the kitchen.

Not that they don’t know how to cook, but they are too busy to spend time cooking in the kitchen. They will rather tailor that time to do something else that pleases them.

One of the tips for people who hate to cook but don’t eat out is cereals. You should have cornflakes or different types of corn or wheat products at home. This will go a long way replenish your stomach when you are hungry. Depending on your choice, you can take cornflakes, golden morn, oat etc and take it with milk or sugar.

Sauce is another easy to prepare meal that you can use to eat rice. It involves slicing your tomatoes, pepper, onions and prepare it with vegetable oil and other ingredients. Preparing sauce is very fun and interesting. It will not take your time that much. You can watch online videos on how to prepare a delicious sauce.

Fried Chicken, Chips and plantain

This is arguably the easiest dish you can cook outside noodles. However, you need a very deep frying pan and vegetable oil to prepare this meal. The first thing you need is to get chips. You can either buy an already processed chip, mixed and dump inside your frying pan or go through the process of cutting yam and potatoes. The choice is yours to make. You will also need a frozen chicken that you will fry along with chips and plantain. So, once you have your frozen chicken, the ship is set to sail.

First Nudist Paris restaurant shuts down due to low patronage

The first naked restaurant in Paris is shutting down due to low patronage despite a lot of French citizens (about 2.7 million people) practicing naturists.

The nudist restaurant in the east of Paris, called “O’Naturel”, opened in November 2017 and got rave reviews from customers who were expected to shed their clothes in the cloakroom and leave it there along with mobile phones to prevent people from sneaking a photo of other customers.

They were then given slippers to wear to the dining area, although women were allowed to keep their heels on if they wanted. In spite of the positive reviews, they still couldn’t get enough customers.

Twins Mike and Stephane Saada, who own the restaurant said they will close for good on February 16.

“It is now or never,” they urged the curious “wanting to experience a last nude dinner in Paris”.

“We are counting on you to support us,” they wrote on Facebook. “We thank everyone for taking part in this adventure. We will only remember the good moments and the great people we met.”

News of the closure sent a chill through the French naturist world, but campaigner Cedric Amato said the restaurant was ahead of its time.

“It may have been a little early” for an all year round nudist establishment in Paris, he told AFP.

“I ate there many times and it was very good,” but the fact that it was in a residential area and did not have a terrace for good weather counted against it, he said.

5 Strangely Popular Foods From Around The World

To us, the food we eat is the most normal thing in the world. We see it every day, we eat it every day, and we hear about it every day because people like to share pictures of their meals on every social networking site on the planet. But people who don’t share our eating habits might find what we consume to be rather strange, and the same holds true in the opposite direction. Deliciousness is in the mouth of the beholder.

Here are 5 Strangely Popular Foods From Around The World:

Dolphin Meat

Dolphin meat isn’t popular, but it’s consumed regularly and found in grocery stores. Despite being one of the most intelligent animals in existence, dolphins are killed for their meat and the purpose of culling their numbers. Some people consider these practices barbaric and would prefer it if Japan stopped hunting both dolphins and whales for good. The Japanese defend themselves by saying that they need the food and need to bring the population down to keep dolphins healthy, although some sources claim this doesn’t ring true.

Dog Meat – China

In the West, even people who don’t particularly care for pets would balk at the idea of eating dog. They’re lovable, loyal little creatures who serve as faithful pets, but in some parts of China they’re an important staple. In Yulin they even have a yearly festival where about 10,000 dogs are eaten.

Witchetty Grubs – Australian Aboriginals

In many parts of Australia high protein food can be quite scarce, so eating insects is a logical conclusion. Unfortunately, there’s really no way to convince someone who didn’t grow up eating bugs that doing so is anything other than completely gross. However, for aboriginals it’s always been a staple.

Stinkbugs – South Africa

Eating grub larva is one thing, but in some parts of the world humans eat even nastier bugs. You’ve probably heard of the stinkbug — they buzz all over the place and emit a foul odor if you squash them. Many see them as pests, but elsewhere they’re an important foodstuff that are harvested on a regular basis. They’re usually collected by hand in the early morning hours, before they start moving around too much.

Even stranger is the process for preparing them. Live stinkbugs must first be tricked into using their stink glands with a small amount of water. Then they’re rinsed in water multiple times, boiled to finish killing them, and cooked to prepare them for consumption. If the stinkbugs are already dead, an entirely different and much more complicated procedure has to be performed before they can safely be eaten. It seems like a lot of work just to munch on a few tiny bugs, but you have to work with the sources of protein you have available.

Tinned Spaghetti – New Zealand

If you live in the United States, there’s a good chance the closest thing you’ve seen to tinned spaghetti is SpaghettiOs. But in the United Kingdom and New Zealand it’s common to see spaghetti in a can, where it’s an absurdly popular food item (especially in New Zealand, where they consume 21 million cans of the stuff a year). America has Chef Boyardee and other canned pastas, but not real tinned spaghetti.
