2019!!! Bye Bye To APC, As Millions Of Buhari’s Supporters Hide In Shame, After Disgraceful Live TV Interview

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Presidential Campaign Council, in Ekiti State, has said that if not for lack of conscience, those still supporting the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress, APC, will go to bed last night, covering themselves with blanket of shame, after seeing the President’s scandalous performance on NTA programme, The Candidates.

The State Campaign Council’s Director of Media and Publicity, Lere Olayinka, in a statement, on Thursday morning, said: “Almost all questions had to be interpreted to the President, while he talked off-point throughout; answering no question appropriately, to the extent that Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, became so embarrassed and agitated, that he tried to help him answer questions that was asked to him.

“It was so terrible that the Moderator had to tell the Vice President, to allow President Buhari to talk for himself.”

Olayinka, who said that it was sad that those promoting the President knew even in 2015, that he lacked both mental and physical capacity to run a Local Council, not to talk of a country of over 200 million people, lamented that “the only reason the cabal running the country wants him to remain in Office, is to guarantee their 2023 Presidential ambition, and access to the national treasury.”

He challenged those still supporting the President’s second term bid, to in all honesty tell Nigerians why the same Buhari that they saw on NTA last night, should continue as President.

“In saner climes, after his disastrous performance on The Candidates, last night, President Buhari will be asked to go home and rest. But because they are selfish and wicked, they will pretend that the NTA programme never happened, just as they pretended in 2015, when the President was calling APC, ‘All Progressives Confidence’, INEC, ‘Independent Nigeria Electoral Commission’, Osinbajo ‘Osunbade’, and Imo State ‘Ibo’ State.

“They also saw him in 2015, when he was talking about Deutsche Mark, that was last spent in Europe, in 1999, as currency being used in Germany, referring to Angela Merkel, as President Michelle, and Germany as West Germany. But they will never mind the international embarrassment that he has become, as long as their hold on power is sustained, and their 2023 Presidential ambition is guaranteed.”

While saying that the President has never hidden his support for corrupt elements in his party, Olayinka said: “To further demonstrate the hypocrisy in his so-called fight against corruption, when asked about the Kano State Governor, Ganduje’s bribery scam, President Buhari responded by saying:

“Hopefully, by the time I go to Kano for my campaign, I will have the information”, but at the same time, tried to discredit the video exposing the bribery scandal.

He said: “Nigerians, especially the people of Ekiti, should take their time to see the video of The Candidates edition of yesterday, and challenge anyone coming to preach re-election of the President to them, if they will hand the running of their personal business to someone who has proved to be unconscious of happenings around him.”

There is also expected to be some reshuffling soon, ahead of next month’s elections.

Some States are also considered to be ‘juicy’ during election seasons.

A Commissioner of Police who spoke on the condition of anonymity, however, said that they were only coming to pay homage to the new Acting IGP, and not necessarily to lobby for juicy positions. He said: “I am here to pay homage to my new boss, and pledge my loyalty. I am not here to lobby anybody.”

Meanwhile, the Ag. IGP, has said he will adopt a fresh strategy to tackle the insecurity challenges facing Nigeria. He spoke with State House correspondents after he was decorated with his new rank by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Mr Adamu, who thanked Mr Buhari for appointing him, said he knew that there were security challenges to be tackled in the country. From the strategies put in place by the former IGP, we will restrategise and make sure that we tackle these challenges squarely.”

The new IG also assured political parties participating in the election that as professionals, the police “are going to stick by the rules, we are going to do the right thing”.

”We will not go outside the ethics of our job to do things that are untoward. Everybody will be given level-playing ground to play his or her politics, ” he said.

Tension In Aso Rock, As Yemi Osinbajo Blows Hot On Rotimi Amaechi, Fights Hard For CJN, Walter Onnoghen

Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, has strongly opposed to the arraignment of Walter Onnoghen, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, before the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, for alleged fraudulent assets declaration.

Recall, that the Code of Conduct Bureau, CCB, had filed a six-count charge bordering on fraudulent declaration of assets against the CJN, at the CCT, after receiving a petition from Dennis Aghanya, the Executive Secretary of the Anti-Corruption Research Data-Based Initiative, ARDBI.

However, it was gathered that Aghanya is a staunch fan of President Muhammadu Buhari and his Allies, after which it later emerged that Rotimi Amaechi, the Minister of Transport, is the ringleader of the President’s Allies, pulling the strings of Onnoghen’s arraignment from the background.

It was learnt also, that while Amaechi and his Allies, including Okoi Obono-Obla, Chairman of the Special Presidential Investigation Panel for the Recovery Public Property, SPIP, remain bent on removing Onnoghen from Office by any possible means, Osinbajo has continued to maintain that the CCT option is not in line with due legal process.

According to a highly placed source in the All Progressives Congress, APC, who is very familiar with the matter, Osinbajo is insisting that while the CJN may have questions to answer, due process must be clearly and transparently followed.

“There are strong claims implicating the CJN on several fronts, including breach of extant laws bordering on corruption and conspiracies. This was the basis of the need to prosecute the CJN”, said the source.

“But the VP denounced the plan to arraign the CJN before the Tribunal, immediately he got wind of it, insisting that due process has to be followed strictly, especially in dealing with such an important personality in the Judiciary.

“The VP specifically warned against the arraignment at the CCT, and the current manner in which the case is being pursued. While he acknowledged the strong case against the CJN, the VP firmly noted that there should be a diligent approach that is in line with due process.”

The source added that Osinbajo seemed to have had his way initially, however, Amaechi went behind to draft a few Security Officials into the plot to arraign the CJN at the Tribunal.

“Even the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, was kept in the dark, until very late in the day, regarding the arraignment at the Tribunal”, he said.

Onnoghen was absent at his arraignment before Honourable Danladi Umar of the CCT, which kicked off on Monday, as Amaechi wanted.

However, it was adjourned to Tuesday, January 22, after Onnoghen,  represented by Wole Olanipekun (SAN), plus 41 other SANS, and more than 40 other Lawyers, successfully argued that he was not properly served the court summons.

BREAKING: President Buhari ‘Loses’ Almost 20 Million Supporters, A Few Weeks To The 2019 General Elections, See Why

The social media was on fire, as a picture went viral of President Muhammadu Buhari, the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Presidential Candidate, in the February 16, 2019 general elections, showing him without his cap.

The picture surfaced online, just a few weeks to the Presidential election, after months of speculations that the man in Aso Rock is not President Muhammadu Buhari, but an unknown Jubril from Sudan.

Recall, that since President Buhari’s rather miraculous healing in 2017, after an undisclosed ailment, and several months of medical attention in the United Kingdom, UK, some sections of Nigerians had alleged that the President was not the man in Aso Rock, and demanded among other things, that the President must remove his cap to identify himself, and also speak his dialect hausa language, on live Television.

While some Analysts and Observers believe that the move to leak the said picture, was a last minute election move by the APC, some others reacted angrily, alleging that the picture was photoshopped to deceive intelligent Nigerians, or simply the work of a rather not convincing Barber; causing them to withdraw their support for the APC Candidate, just some weeks to the general elections.

See below some of the reactions from Facebook, after the picture surfaced online yesterday:

TENSION!!! Atiku Explodes In Anger, Set To Block INEC, APC, Buhari, Ahead Of The General Elections

The main opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has called out the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, of releasing uncollected Permanent Voters Cards, PVCs, to some Governors of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

The former VP spoke in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, while addressing thousand of his supporters at Nelson Mandela Freedom Park, venue of his Presidential Rally.

Atiku, who had earlier visited the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, and Owa of Obokun of Ileshaland, Oba Gabriel Aromolaran, in their Palaces, said that President Mohammadu Buhari failed all the promises made before his election in 2015, and deserves to be voted out. He said: “This government came and said they were going to give you jobs. Have they given you the jobs? They said they were going to grow the economy. Have they grown the economy? We are in recession. In fact, we are the headquarters of poverty in the whole world. That is where they took us to.

Atiku Abubakar Takes Campaign To Ile-Ife

“They said they were going to secure our country, instead of securing our country, we have insecurity in three to four zones of the country. Have they delivered on all these three? Why should you then vote for them? Now, listen to this very carefully, we have information that INEC has been giving uncollected PVCs to the APC Governors. So if a voter comes to your polling booths and you do not know him, do not allow him to vote, because they want to steal your votes.

“I promised restructuring. In five to six months, I will start that, and I mean it. I said I am going to give youths 40 percent of my government, and I mean it. I said I am going to give women 30 percent of my government, and I mean it. Mark my words, I am not Buhari.”

Speaking earlier, the PDP National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, said that Atiku is tested, and would deliver if given the opportunity to revive the fortunes of the country.

A former PDP National Secretary and Chairman of the Coalition of United Political Parties, CUPP, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, revealed that President Buhari failed to deliver on his two key campaign promises of restructuring and improving security.

In their separate remarks, the Osun PDP Chairman, Soji Adagunodo, former Ogun and Ekiti State Governors, Gbenga Daniel and Ayo Fayose, respectively, called on the electorate to vote for Atiku, to save the country from further misrule.

A day earlier, Atiku made a stop in Ondo State to flagoff the party’s campaign rally, where he also charged residents to protect their votes at the polls. He spoke at the MKO Democracy Park in Akure, stating that the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC has failed Nigerians. His words, “APC promised to revive the economy but they failed. They promised to curb insecurity but insecurity has taken over everywhere.

“In the North East, Boko Haram has become more deadly. In the North West, bandits are ravaging everywhere. Same goes for the situation in the North Central. Kidnapping in parts of South West, the South East and the South South. Don’t let them to steal your vote because they are not talking to you.

“They are not ready to campaign, we are the one moving from various parts of the country to interact with you. Don’t allow them to do what they did in Ekiti, Osun, Kastina, Bauchi.”

While assuring that his government would create enough room for the youths and women, Atiku reiterated that he will restructure Nigeria as President. His words, “My government will be made up of 40 percent youth and 30 for women. I’ll restructure Nigeria so that you can be in charge of your health, education, You will be in charge virtually all the component of government.”

He also urged the people of Ondo State to vote for all those contesting under the party in the state for efficient administration.

Speaking on the methodology of the ranking, Henley said: “For each travel destination, if no visa is required for passport holders from a country or territory, then a score with value = 1 is created for that passport.

“A score with value = 1 is also applied if passport holders can obtain a visa on arrival, a visitor’s permit, or an electronic travel authority (ETA) when entering the destination. These visa-types require no pre-departure government approval, because of the specific visa-waiver programs in place.

“Where a visa is required, or where a passport holder has to obtain a government-approved electronic visa (e-Visa) before departure, a score with value = 0 is assigned. A score with value = 0 is also assigned if passport holders need pre-departure government approval for a visa on arrival, a scenario we do not consider ‘visa-free’.”

2019!!! Heads To Roll, As Ag. IGP, Mohammed Adamu, Alerts All Political Parties, Ahead Of The 2019 Elections, Delivers Powerful Message

The new Acting Inspector-General of Police, Ag. IGP, Mohammed Adamu, has said that he will improve on the strategies earlier adopted by his predecessor to tackle the security challenges facing Nigeria.

Adamu, stated this on Tuesday, while speaking to State House Correspondents, after he was decorated with his new rank by President Muhammadu Buhari, and assisted by former IGP Ibrahim Idris.

The new Police boss, who thanked the president for appointing him, said that he knows that there are security challenges to be tackled in the country. He said, “Issues of kidnapping, abduction, and other security challenges. From the strategies put in place by the former IGP, we will re-strategise, and make sure that we tackle these challenges squarely”.

The 57-year-old super cop also spoke about the forthcoming general elections, assuring stakeholders of adequate preparation as put in place by his predecessor, to ensure free, fair, and credible elections, take place in Nigeria.

“We are going to build upon the strategies put in place, to make sure that we have hitch-free elections in the country”, he said.

The new Ag. IGP, also assured political parties participating in the elections, that as professionals, the Police “are going to stick by the rules, we are going to do the right thing. We will not go outside the ethics of our job, to do things that are untoward. Everybody will be given level-playing ground, to play his or her politics”, he said.

The former IGP, Ibrahim Idris, who also spoke briefly, advised his successor to go round the whole country, and “adopt measures to ensure that the Nigeria Police Force gives maximum protection to lives and property”.

Meanwhile, the Coalition Of United Political Parties, CUPP, has demanded a commitment from the acting IGP, Mohammed Adamu, not to be biased. This call was made through its spokesman, Mr Ugochinyere Ikenga, who addressed a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday.

The coalition warned the new police boss against intimidating members of the opposition parties ahead of the general elections. Ikenga said, “The opposition is demanding that the new acting Inspector General of Police should make a commitment to the political parties, not engage in the massive arrest of opposition leaders few days or hours to the elections. He must make that commitment to political stakeholders that the police will not go to the homes of opposition leaders, 24 or 48 hours to the elections and start arresting them.”

CUPP, however, appealed to Mr Adamu to release those it described as ‘political prisoners’ in the custody of the police before his appointment as IGP.
It also asked the new police boss to stop the purported pre-election clampdown on opposition party agents and indiscriminate posting of police commissioners.

“We want him to make a commitment that the police will not continue the attitude of indiscriminate posting and reporting of police commissioners few days or hours to elections, including DPOs and state operational officers of the police,” Ikenga added.

The coalition further announced a seven-day ceasefire and called on its members not to attack the Nigeria Police Force. According to it, the members have been criticising the police for their alleged unhealthy attitude towards the opposition, an action it said can create tension in the polity.

Acting IGP Adamu hails from Lafia, Nasarawa State and holds a bachelor’s degree in Geography. He enlisted into the police on February 1, 1986, as Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police. Before his appointment, the new police boss was a Directing Staff at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Jos, Plateau State.

CONFIRMED!!! EFCC Releases Emergency Statement On The Arrest Of CJN, Walter Onnoghen, As PDP Alleges Plot To Rig General Elections

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has denied in strong terms claims that its Officers arrested the embattled Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Walter Onnoghen.

The 68-year-old Judiciary officer is standing trial, over allegations of fraudulent declaration of assets.

Recall, that President Muhammadu Buhari, on Saturday, reportedly issued an order to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Walter Samuel Nkanu Onnoghen, to immediately vacate his Office, after allegations surfaced on his failure to declare all his assets as required by law, and for operating Domiciliary Foreign Currency Bank Accounts, before assuming duty as the head of the Judiciary branch.

To this end, Onnoghen was summoned to appear before the Danladi Umar-led Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, on Monday, but was absent as his Defence team, led by Wole Olanipekun (SAN), challenged the jurisdiction of the court to hear the matter, the case was eventually adjourned to January 22, 2019.

But in a new twist to the unending saga, news of an invasion of Onnoghen’s privacy was made known by former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, on his Twitter page. He asked President Muhammadu Buhari to call off the EFCC Operatives from the CJN residence, writing: “Why have the EFCC surrounded the home of CJN Onnoghen, and why are they seeking to arrest him? These people want Nigeria to burn! Buhari call off your dogs before it is too late! This is a democracy, and not a gestapo State! In the name of God, let this madness stop.”

But in a swift reaction, the anti-graft Commission, said it never extended an invitation for arrest to the CJN, nor was his house invaded, as reported in the Media.

A statement by the Ibrahim Magu-led agency on Tuesday, read:

The attention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has been drawn to the falsehood which has been spreading on the social media that the EFCC has arrested the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen. This is not only a figment of the imagination of the purveyor of the fake news, but an evil machination by the creator and carriers of the news aimed at creating anarchy in the country.

For the record, the EFCC never went to the house of the CJN for arrest neither was invitation extended to him.

Several calls and short messages received all point to the fact that the brains behind the fake news had one thing in mind: to act as agent of destabilization. We would not give in to their plots.

One of the architect of the fake news, Femi Fani-Kayode, was quoted as saying “Why have the EFCC surrounded the home of CJN Onnoghen and why are they seeking to arrest him? These people want Nigeria to burn! Buhari call off your dogs before it is too late! This is a democracy and not a gestapo state! In the name of God let this madness stop”. Another arrowhead of the fake news, Yinka Odumakin shared a non-existent video which has gone viral.

We want to assure Nigerians that while we would fight corruption in line with the mandate setting up the Commission, agents of darkness, in the likes of Femi Fani-Kayode, Yinka Odumakin and his cohorts, would never be able to manipulate the people against the Commission.

We also want to assure Fani-Kayode, Yinka Odumakin and other purveyors of the evil news to be ready to defend their actions in the court of law as the EFCC will file libel suit against them without further delay.

Meanwhile, the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has maintained its stance on the planned arraignment of the CJN by the Buhari-led Federal Government. Addressing a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, the party’s spokesman Kola Ologbondiyan slammed the All Progressives Congress, APC, led government, describing the arraignment as an alleged plot by the ruling party to entangle the elections in crisis and pave the way for rigging.

Ologbondiyan alleged, “We are all witnesses to the unrelenting assault on the institution of the judiciary and the courts by the [Muhammadu] Buhari Presidency as well as the APC. This ignoble act is with the view to replace Justice Onnoghen with a pliable CJN that will execute its plot to annex the court and use them to curtail freedom of expression and to silence opposition members as well as perceived opponents of the Buhari administration ahead of the February election.”

The PDP spokesman went on to decry that the nation was gradually sliding into fascism in the face of the recent happenings. He condemned the supposed attempt to stifle the judiciary and erode freedom of speech, as well as encourage massive clampdown on the media and individuals who criticise the government.

According to him, the prevailing state of polity in Nigeria could plunge the country into anarchy if it is allowed to continue. His statement reads: “This siege on the judiciary has now come to a climax with the widely condemned attempt by the Buhari Presidency and the APC to forcefully remove the Chief Justice of Nigeria, (CJN) Justice Walter Onnoghen. With the prevailing state of our polity; the flagrant violation of our Constitution, continuous attacks on institutions of democracy and principle of separation of powers, consistent abuse of human rights, like the locking up of the opposition members, it is clear and manifestly clear that our nation is on a rapid descent into fascism, which we must all resist with our votes.”

Goodbye To Godswill Akpabio, As EFCC Receives Order To Arrest The Akwa Ibom Senator, For Massive Corruption

Protesters from Akwa Ibom state, earlier today, stormed the Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in Wuse 2, Abuja, demanding the immediate probe of their former Governor and now Senator, Godswill Akpabio.

Image result for protesters storm efcc office

The protesters under the aegis of Civil Society Groups for Accountability and Probity, requested an investigation to be launched into what they described as the “unlawful acquisition of properties, and false declaration of assets by the Senator”.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Jonathan Ogwuche said that they were at the Commission to submit a petition against Akpabio. He said that in 2007, Akpabio ‘claimed’ to have eight buildings, while in 2011, “he declared 10 buildings. Curiously however, and of worrisome note, in 2016, following an investigative report by an online Media, it was alleged that he was among those with properties in Dubai.

“Contrary to claims by Senator Akpabio, the ‘following outlandish properties’ located at the under-listed addresses, could also be traced to him as follows: 1. Plot 5, Ikogosi Spring Close, off Katsina-Ala Crescent, Maitama-Abuja; 2. Plot 28, Colorado Close, Maitama; 3. 22, Probyn Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, and 4. Plot 23, Olusegun Aina Street, Parkview, Lagos.”

He said that the properties “are conspicuously missing in the assets declaration of the former Governor. With the exception of a Bedford armour bus, which he claimed to be a gift, cars declared in 2007, were copied and pasted in 2011. This does not represent the reality on ground, as he is known to move about in a fleet of cars.”

The protesters claimed that a son of the former Governor, “who is said to have a property in Abuja (in 2007 declaration), at Games Village, acquired on 1-1-2005, worth a value of N16.9 million, has an annual income of just N350,000, while in the 2011 declaration, the value remained unchanged. The source of the house is questionable. We can incontrovertibly submit that Senator Akpabio freely dished out the finances of Akwa Ibom State to his children, friends, and other family members, while corruptly enriching himself with same, at the detriment of the State.”

In a swift reaction however, Anietie Ekong, a Media Aide to the Senator, stated that they were not surprised by the allegations. He noted that they have responded to several other petitions at the Commission. He said, “This is not the first time we are going to EFCC. We have been responding to petitions since we left office, in 2015”.

He revealed that the Petitioners are pursuing a ‘political vendetta’. He added that previous petitions had been withdrawn, “by their Originators, because of lack of evidence”.

Meanwhile, the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Presidential Campaign Organisation, PPCO, recently described the All Progressives Congress, APC, Presidential Campaign flag-off in Uyo, Akwa-Ibom State, as a mockery of President Muhammadu Buhari, adding that, the cold response by the crowd, showed how much Nigerians now begrudge him, over his failures in governance.

Their statement reads: “The PPCO said it was a pitiable sight, as an embarrassed President Buhari could only slur, failed to articulate any clear reason for seeking re-election, and had to cut short his presentation, when he realised that the rented crowd, which refused to carry APC brooms, was not paying attention to him. More embarrassing, was that apparently miffed by Mr. President’s attempt at yet another false performance claims, the crowd started leaving the venue of the rally, at the time he was being handed his party’s flag by his Factional National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, a development that led to a hurried closure of the event.

“Nigerians were alarmed when Mr. President claimed that the nation was secure under his rule, when there are killings and daily bloodletting in various parts of our country; when insurgents who had been pushed to the fringes of the North-East by the PDP administration, leading to the conduct of elections in all the Local Governments in the country, have under the Buhari administration spread to other States of the North.

“While Mr. President was making his claims, insurgents had taken Baga; there are killings going on in Zamfara, and our Soldiers and Policemen are being killed by terrorists, due to the neglect of his administration.

“Our citizens were further startled when President Buhari claimed that he has achieved food security, when in actual fact, there is hunger and starvation everywhere. This statement not only confirms the Buhari Presidency’s proclivity for false claims, but also shows that Mr. President is completely insensitive to the plight of Nigerians.

“President Buhari further embarrassed his office, on his claims of commitment towards the war against corruption, when he was surrounded at the podium, by individuals who are facing corruption allegations, including the Director-General of his Campaign, Rotimi Amaechi, the APC Factional National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, his South-South Zonal Director, Godswill Akpabio, and a host of others.

“Futhermore, Nigerians are invited to note that our First Lady, Aisha Buhari, who was on the side of President Buhari throughout his 2015 Campaign, conspicuously shunned Mr. President’s 2019 re-election flag off, apparently in fulfillment of her stance not to support him for a second term, if he failed in his first tenure.

“The PPCO therefore, counsels President Buhari to use his failed campaign flag-off, to know that no amount of crowd renting, vote-buying, and intimidation of opposition, can change the resolve of Nigerians to vote him out of office, come February 2019.”

BREAKING: Aso Rock In Jittery Mode, As Ibrahim Babangida Sends Powerful Message To Nigeria Army

Former military president, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, has asked the Nigerian Army to evolve a new strategy in combating the deadly insurgency in the north-eastern part of Nigeria.

Babangida said this in his message on the 2019 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, taking place today in Abuja. He said the military should fortify its combat strength, as it is presently faced with “horrific challenges”.

The 77-year-old retired but not tired General urged the Nigerian army to remain apolitical in the forthcoming elections. He said, “Every year, our valiant Armed Forces majestically roll out their drums to honour our slain fallen heroes, with streams of organised fascinating events coming to a climax on 15th January.”

“As we prepare to celebrate this year’s Remembrance Day, we should not be oblivious of the fact that our military is presently faced with horrific challenges in the crucial counter-insurgency war, and activities of other blood-thirsty armed groups.

“Hence, it is high time we seek to consolidate our gains and also fortify our combat strength. This is necessary as our Army is undeniably a professional military establishment that has over the years achieved remarkable successes in protecting our nation’s territorial integrity.

“Indeed, it is pertinent for the top echelons of our military to speedily evolve new combat strategy to bravely confront the callous terrorists who have continued to hold many parts of the North East, and in extension, Nigeria in ransom.

“In recent times, elections have tested our unity as a people, while also posing threats to our socio-cultural diversity and challenging our common destiny.

“Nevertheless, I have a strong conviction that our Armed Forces will remain apolitical prior, during, and after the general elections, while focusing only on discharging their constitutional responsibility of safeguarding the country either from the aggression of internal rebels in the guise of Boko Haram insurgents or from external retrogressive forces.”

Meanwhile, the former military head of state, recently shocked the occupants of Aso Rock, when he described the kind of person who will have his support in the forthcoming presidential race.

IBB, as he is popularly referred to, made the revelation during a no-holds barred interview with a magazine, emphasized that he was going to support any group that comes out with a template that will ensure the unity and stability of Nigeria

The General said the country needs someone that has “the sagacity and eloquence of Zik; he must have the knowledge of Awo and he must have the charisma of Sardauna, Tafawa Balewa. Such a man must also possess a deep passion and love for Nigeria like Olusegun Obasanjo. He doesn’t compromise on anything Nigeria. No matter the situation, OBJ is going to stand for Nigeria. I called them four-in-one; (such a man must be) one man with four qualities.”

The Armed Forces and Remembrance Day celebration is an annual event organized to honour members of the Nigerian Armed Forces who fought in the first and second World Wars, and those who served or are still serving in various peace support operations worldwide as well as those who fought in the Nigerian civil war. The Day is to celebrate both the dead and the living heroes including all those who suffered various deprivations as a result of wars.

The Day was initially marked on the eleventh of November every year to coincide with the Remembrance Day popularly known as “Poppy Day” or “11 – 11” for the first and Second World War veterans in all commonwealth countries.

However, in Nigeria, in view of some significant historical developments, it is celebrated on the 15th of January every year. The change to January 15 of every year was done in commemoration of the surrender of Biafran troops to the Federal troops on 15 January 1970, thus signaling the end of the Nigerian Civil War that sought to tear apart the unity of Nigeria.
