Manchester United transfer: Mourinho favourite monitored by Scottish giants

Celtic are keeping tabs on Scott McTominay’s situation with Manchester United prepared for the midfielder to go out on a possible loan move before the closure of the transfer window. The 22-year-old Scotland internationalist is contracted at Old Trafford until 2021 but could be allowed to head out for first-team football. That, however, could hinge on whether or not Marouane Fellaini stays with the Premier League side.

McTominay has been capped five times for Scotland but so far has made just eight first-team appearances for Manchester United this season. A number of clubs were rebuffed in their attempts to take the player on loan in the summer window although it appears that he may be set to go now, although a conclusive call has yet to be made by United.

Meanwhile, former Manchester United strker Andy Cole has said that Alexis Sanchez has not “become a bad player overnight”,  adding that the Chilean is “like a kid with a new football” in his eagerness to impress. The Red Devils were considered to have pulled off quite the transfer coup when taking the Chile international from Arsenal in January 2018.

Sanchez has, however, mustered just four goals across 32 appearances during his time at Old Trafford, while also struggling with a series of niggling knocks. Cole believes the 30-year-old forward could be accused of having tried too hard to prove himself in new surroundings, with there still every chance that he will come good now that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has breathed new life into a United side which had stagnated under Jose Mourinho.

The former Red Devils striker told ESPN: “You never become a bad player overnight. When he left Arsenal for Man United, he joined a team which was totally different. You have to change as a player, which is difficult. His work ethic is the same, but while he has given the ball away too much, it has been because he’s been trying things because he wanted to produce a pass or score goals.

“He will improve because everyone else has improved since Ole took over. Alexis has got good pace and he never stops running or closing down. He’s like a little kid with a new football who wants to show how good he is. He was like that at Arsenal where he scored goals.”

OH NO! See Five Clear Evidences That Proves Beyond A Doubt That Davido Bought All His Songs

Right from time immemorial, most artiste are always in charge of their song creation. From the recording of lyrics to the final input, the artiste is the executive producer of his work. However, we’ve witnessed artistes selling songs or co-writing songs for each other. Beyonce bought the smash hit “Irreplaceable” from Neyo, Rihanna got “Diamond” from Sia and the list is endless.

However, back here in Nigeria, the case is different. Most artistes write their songs as these artistes know what it takes after being bred and educated during their early years. But there are artistes who have to rely entirely on the output of their ghostwriters and songwriters for them to make any meaningful music. Example of such is Davido (No Offence). Let’s see scenarios where Davido has had to rely on his ghostwriters.

1. AYE

Davido‘s 2014 hit was written by Runtown. Even though Runtown had denied it, everything about the song speaks Runtown. From the lyrics to the producer which was Tspize, Runtown’s favorite producer, the sing was 100% Runtown hands down.

2. FALL & FIA

For those who don’t know, one of Davido‘s new acts, Peruzzi wrote Fia and Fall. The reports that went round was that Peruzzi was Davido’s Ghostwriter and Davido decided to make him an integral part of his record label and also give him recognition by signing him to the record label.

3. PERE

We all know the story behind this song. Apparently, while Dammy Krane was still languishing behind bars in the US, Davido bought the song “Pere” from Dammy Krane. Dammy Krane had earlier recorded the song with Producer HOD and it was one of those songs in Dammy Krane’s archives but after signing on to DMW and also in a bid to pledge loyalty and stay relevant, he sold the song to Davido. The song received a mash-up from DJ Mustard and had HOD ranting on Twitter about his loss.

4. GBAGBE OSHI

Originally sang by General Pype and produced by Shizzi, Davido probably heard the song and fell in love with it. He reached out to Pype and offered to pay over a million Naira for the song. Pype whose career has suffer a bit of recession decided to sell the song to Davido. Davido recorded the entire thing with his frog voice and made it the lead single of his 2016 EP, Son of Mercy. Few weeks after Davido dropped the song, General Pype decided to release the original version thereby putting Davido into another mess.

5. LIKE DAT

Davido‘s last hit for 2017 “Like Dat” was one of those songs that was slept on in 2017. Most amazing fact is it was written by Teni TheEntertainer. Days before it was released, Teniola tweeted that the song was written by her and gave Davido a shout-out for giving her a chance.

6. IF

While many won’t believe this, If was written by Tekno. Produced by Tekno, evidence gives that Tekno Miles wrote IF due to the simplicity of how the song is sung/written. Tekno has similar songs such as Pana and Diana that contain the simple style as If.

Anti-Open Grazing Law: Buhari/Osinbajo gives conflicting solution to herders/farmers crisis

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari and his Vice, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo on Wednesday night disagreed on a proposed sustainable solution to end the farmers/herders clashes.

The communal clash reported to have claimed 3,641 lives in the past three years have received both local and global attention.

While the President argued that the state governors should have assisted to revive the grazing routes which according to him, was taken-over by influential Nigerians, his Vice, Osinbajo maintained that the National Economic Council (NEC) had agreed on ranching and grazing reserves.

Both candidates contesting under the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) spoke in Abuja during a live show programme, ‘The Candidate’, organised by Daria Media, the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), in collaboration with PLAC and the MacArthur Foundation, to respond to contending national issues and unveil their plans ahead on the 2019 general election.

The candidates were subjected to serial questions regarding the slow pace of prosecution and judgement on corruption cases, alleged rising injustice in the military on the part of officers at Boko Haram forefront, the 2019 election among other issues of interest to ordinary Nigerians.

Question from an audience read out by Kadaria Ahmed, the anchor to the discussion programme sought to know the President’s plan on finding a permanent solution to the herders/farmers killings.

Reacting to the herdsmen crisis, Buhari blamed the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom for initiating the anti-open grazing law in the state, such that prevented the pastoralists from easy access to water and pastures.

“What happened started from Benue State and it was unfortunate. We, the federal government foresaw it. I asked the minister of agriculture and rural development to go to the archives and find out the heads from the First Republic where that incredible leadership, there was cattle routes and grazing areas, dams and veterinary clinics but some important personalities encroached the cattle routes, the grazing areas and if a herder and his 200 cattle push ahead wherever their way to the water, they will just go through there…….”

“We already started and we want to ask, especially the Governors, the movement is from north to south and its quite predictable. After the harvest, the cattle will move Southward for water and pasture and then our borders….”

The President argued further that, “…when structures were tampered with, in terms of cattle routes and grazing areas, it is very difficult. We have sent these things back through the ministry of agriculture and rural development to the governors so that we can create these corridors.

“But for a government like Benue governor who they said they have banned cattle rearing and banned grazing, we are in the same country and I expect our governments to insist on the routes to be re-established in the grazing areas but to say that cattle cannot move is very difficult. Benue is complaining, but I heard they are already in Bayelsa from there are they going to the Atlantic?” he queried.

Meanwhile, in the Fact Check conducted by the ICIR, over President Buhari’s true public position on the anti-open grazing law, the report revealed verifiable evidence where the President was being persuaded to support the law as part of measures to reduce conflicts in Benue State.

In a statement recently issued by his aide on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, he claimed that President Buhari had insisted on the implementation of the anti-open grazing law in Benue which was not entirely true.

But while observing trajectory of President Buhari’s arguments over the matter, Osinbajo swiftly interjected narrating efforts and the current position of the NEC over the issue.

He shared parts of the Livestock Transformation Plan where it was agreed that willing State governors would provide land for the development of ranches as a service to the pastoralist including construction of earth dams.

“Part of the plan that the NEC laid out is called the livestock transformation plan. All the governors in the frontline states are also involved in this and I think that one of the important points that emerged is to ensure that there is a need for us to create some access to grazing areas.

“I think that is the point Mr. President is trying to make,” he added.

He cited that wherever cattle are, there should be access to a ranch, earth dams, water among others. Thus, whichever state that is willing would pull resources together to build ranches or grazing areas where the pastoralists would pay appropriate fees and return to the north thereafter.

“That was an interim phase. As time goes on, we will eventually be able to stop grazing from one place to another but that will take time,” Osinbajo stated.

Reacting to perceived misconceptions that President Buhari is biased due to his clear passion for the livestock, Osinbajo emphasised inability of the federal government to determine activities of the states, stressing that the states do have right to pass a law on the use of their lands.

The VP further identified desertification as the major cause of the crisis between farmers and herders, with clear attribution to climate change.

To address the lingering crisis, which he, (Osinbajo) agreed was getting worse, he listed the Great Green Wall project as federal government policy designed to mitigate the impacts of desert encroachments as well as efforts to recharge the shrinking Lake Chad.

However, an investigation conducted by The ICIR revealed that the said great green wall project was not doing any better but more of wasted efforts due to poor community ownership and corruption.

PLEASE!! Ikeja Electric begs Public to abstain from activities within Power Lines

In a renewed commitment to its high safety standards, Ikeja Electric Plc has cautioned the public in its network against building structures and engaging in social and economic activities under power lines.

The company said the specific clearance/distance which the public must maintain away from a 33/11KV lines is 5.5 meters (20ft) on both sides, while for 132KV lines, the distance must be 15 meters (50ft) on both sides and 330KV lines must have a clearance of 25metres (60ft) on both sides.

The electricity distribution company (Disco) Head of Quality, Safety, Health and Environment (QHSE), Jamiu Badmos, explained that carrying out social and economic activities under power lines exposes people’s lives to danger, leading to the risk of electrocution.

According to him, fatality within the energy sector can be prevented if the public religiously adhere to precautions and avoid activities close to electrical installations.

“As a responsible service provider, we are aware of our obligation to ensure that every resident within our network is kept safe, especially bearing in mind the hazardous nature of electricity so we are using this medium to remind the public that electrical installations are harmful and must be avoided as much as is possible. Our appeal to customers to avoid activities under power lines must be taken seriously, especially as the integrity of old cables cannot always be guaranteed,” he said.

Badmos revealed that even with the huge resources the Disco has spent on enlightenment campaigns to sensitize the public on inherent dangers of life-threatening activities, some people have remained adamant.

He further called for the intervention of the government and relevant stakeholders in stemming this “ugly development” by declaring activities under power line as illegal and moving people and markets away from the danger spots to save lives and property.

I promised to tackle corruption but now I can’t; I need your help – Buhari

The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari, has appealed to Nigerians that have evidences against corrupt persons in his government to make it available. Buhari was reacting to the allegations that his government’s anti corruption war shielded members of the ruling All Progressives Congress.

The President was asked why the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Babachir David Lawal, and other persons in his government have not been persecuted inspite of the fight against corruption. Buhari said that the onus was on the person making allegations to provide evidence why the accused should be prosecuted.

The President said: “That is not fair criticism of the government. I don’t think there is anybody that is being pointed out as corrupt in the last dispensation which we looked the other direction. I told you why I have to be careful and the public should help us, if there are strong allegations that is backed up with evidences, bank accounts, names of companies floated, contracts awarded, then we take them before the courts through EFCC and ICPC and we have to trust the system and allow them to complete investigation.

“If we just take people in as we did during the military and lock them up, the present democracy, a multi party democracy does not approve that. If you accuse any person, you have to provide evidence in court for him to be prosecuted, So, if there is strong allegations, the government may decide to ask people to go like the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation we asked him to go. The matter is already before the EFCC and I believe that a directive has been issued to charge him and all persons who have cases before the EFCC.” he stated.

President Buhari also said he is yet to receive the Disability Bill from the National Assembly.

He said that his administration has done a lot in addressing insecurity , especially the Boko Haram in the North East.

“When this administration came in, Boko Haram was holding on to 17 local governments in the North east. At this moment they are not holding any. They have only resorted to attacking soft targets. The best you can get about this administration in terms of fighting Boko Haram is that people are being returned to their various homes, which was not the case before.

Buhari said that he was concerned when security personnel were being shortchanged. He advised the media to do their thorough research on issues related to insecurity.’’

He said his government is concerned about the welfare of security personnel especially those rendered disabled in the course of defending the country.

He made the appeal while answering questions during a live TV programme tagged ‘The Candidates’, anchored by Kadaria Ahmed. The Programme is sponsored by MacArthur Foundation and NTA.
