Nigerian-American songstress, MrcyU who was at the BET Experience held at La Convention Center, Downtown Los Angeles, USA earlier made her prediction on who will win the coveted Best International Act category of the award between Burnaboy and Mr Eazi.
The BET Experience is a pre event for the award proper which opens with performances. It also creates room for meet and greet session among Artists.
In an exclusive chat with Opera News’ Daily Advent, the Mrcy crooner revealed she was impressed at Burnaboy’s win during the award and also dropped her opinion on who is the face of Afrobeat.
“Burna and Mr Eazi are both amazing Artists. I am a huge fan of both so thats a tough one..but Burnaboy deserves it because he ‘busted’ our brains this year with fire hits back to back, coupled with his style and swag to match,” She said.
She as well answered to the question of where she thinks Afrobeat will be internationally in the next 5 years.
“In the next 5 years afrobeats will literally hack every culture. It’s already happening. Artists from all over the world are infusing afrobeats into their music. It will go far beyond reggae and have just as big effect on the music Industry as hip hop does..no doubt in My mind #africatotheworld.”
Listing her top 5 Afrobeat artists, MrcyU ended up dropping more numbers as believes they are all good, insisting she loves them for different reasons.
“Hmm these questions are challenging..I love so many Afrobeat Artists for different reasons..I lf I have to choose My top five it would be Kizz Daniel, Mr Eazi, Tiwa Savage, Simi, Wizkid, Burna, and Runtown…oh wait that was 7!..thats the best I can do and there are still others..Africa is full of so much talent. Oh and the Artist Shomadjozi I just recently discovered her when she performed at Global citizen I believe she made Africa proud. She’s dope and her energy is contagious..I’m so happy for her and believe she is going to do big things.”
Speaking on who is the face of Afrobeat, this is what MrcyU has to say,
“In My opinion there is no one person who is face for afrobeat. The face of Afrobeat is Africa,” She concluded
