Olamide vs Don Jazzy: Who Is The Best Record Label Boss?

Olamide vs Don Jazzy are some of the biggest name in Nigeria music industry. Olamide is currently one of the best rapper in Nigeria and in Africa. The Indigenous rapper has made a fortune for himself through his music and in business. Olamide been a record label owner and a rapper has been making his millions. While Don Jazzy is making his millions by producing music and getting endorsements from companies.

Olamide vs Don Jazzy, comparing the net worth above Don Jazzy is currently richer than Olamide. And since money is power, Don Jazzy can be said to be more powerful than Olamide Badoo. Though Badoo is a street gang-like boss, street is nothing when money is talking.

Don Jazzy is making his millions by producing music and he is the owner of Marvin records. Being the CEO of the biggest record label in Nigeria with artistes such as Korede Bello, Johnny Drille, Di’ja, Dr SID, D’Prince signed to the record label while Tiwa Savage and Reekado Banks recently exited. Don Jazzy gets percentage of the artiste efforts, in terms of their music and shows.

 

 

 

Olamide is the CEO of the record label YBNL. The label has the likes of Lyta, DJ Enimoney, Temmie Ovwasa, Picazo and other acts, while the likes of Lil Kesh and Adekunle Gold recently exited the label. The YBNL label is becoming more competitive and almost getting to the standards of that of Don Jazzy’s Mavin records.

There are other Record labels in Nigeria but we will be focusing on Olamide and Don Jazzy’s record label because these two have been around long before any other label started. There has been several stories of signed acts leaving their record labels, could it be as a result of having hard time with their boss, expired contract or just for greater heights?

In Olamide’s record label, YBNL the likes of Adekunle Gold, Chinko Ekun, Lil Kesh are one of the popular artistes who have exited the record label, while in Don Jazzy’s, Mavin Records the likes of Wande Coal, Tiwa Savage, Reekado Banks, Iyanya have also exited.

Reports about Wande Coal’s departure surfaced after he released and promoted the single “Kilaju” without the support of Mavin Records. On November 5, 2013, Wande Coal released a song titled “Baby Face” and said Shizzi produced it for him. Subsequently, Don Jazzy went on Twitter and accused Coal of intellectual property theft.

 

 

In November 7, 2013, Mavin Records sent out a press release officially announcing the departure of Coal. The press release came shortly after the Twitter feud between Jazzy and Coal.

 

 

In a radio interview with Beat FM in February 2018, Iyanya announced his exit from Mavin Records, saying, “I’m now signed to Temple Music but I’m a Mavin for life. It was not a beef. I was there and it was time to move on”. In December 2018, Reekado Banks announced his departure from Mavin Records via Instagram.

 

 

 

In May 2019, Universal Music Group announced the signing of Tiwa Savage. During said announcement, it was revealed that Savage left Mavin Records. Don Jazzy congratulated Savage on her UMG signing and said she will forever be remembered at Mavin.

There wasn’t any controversial reason why any of the acts left, but they exited as a result of expired contracts. Just like Adekunle Gold who disclosed that he was no longer with Olamide’s label YBNL. He said: “My contract has expired and that’s it. In YBNL you don’t renew contract. Olamide signed us for two years, so that by yourself, you can hustle and make things happen. I don’t have my record label now, so I’m on my own for now… I don’t know about record label and I don’t have the vision to have one now.”
