Our artists in Nigeria are seriously finding their footing out there. Or do I say “have found?”
Impressively, many Nigerian artistes have successfully collaborated with international awards winning artists and this is a plus for our industry.
We have the likes of Tuface Idibia (2Baba) who collaborated with artists like Bridget Kelly, T-Pain and the currently controversial R Kelly. There is Davido who did his thing with Meek Mill, Rae Sremmurd, Young Thug, Wale, Quavo, etc. Our once favourite singing duo and twins, p-square had their “collabo” with Rick Ross, Akon and T.I while Omawumi joined her powerful voice with Angelique Kidjo’s powerful voice to produce an amazing symphony. We all remember D-Banj’ remix of “Mr Endowed” with Snoop dogg. He also featured Gucci mane in his song titled EL CHAPO.
There’s also Burna boy who is currently topping a chart somewhere while Mama Tiwa, Patoranking, Mr Eazi and even Yemi Alade have had their fair share of international collaborations.
Currently in the spotlight is Wizkid.
Just last night, he an electrifying performance with Canadian singer Drake, at the O2 arena, Pennisular square, North Greenwich, London. Wizkid actually sold out a show at that same arena and this happened just last year. Also hinted by Wizzy is a new “Wizkid-Drake” collaboration we are to watch out for.
As usual, Nigerians have been reacting to this.
In a tweet, Hushpuppy said he was impressed by a brother, friend and someone that has hustle. He asked him to keep up the good work.
Some of @ahhmedbaba tweet said, “Wizkid be making the loudest moves on a high-level without no noise on the low… like Drake had to run up again to give him a kiss…….”
From @Bellkonekt, “#drake brings out #wizkid out during his performance at the o2 arena in #London and Starboy did not even upload this. When you are big, you are big, abeg. @ wizkidayo has a way of making other celebrities look like fans. #wizkidfc #AbujaTwitterCommunity #Lagos #drake”
Another Nigerian, @NwanneChukwuka said, “the difference is so clear…J’Cole gave king Davido enough time to perform at his festival..king davido performed for over 20 minutes..but Drake just allowed his houseboy(#Wizkid) to come out and just talk for 2 minutes bcos he is a housemaid!! davido is a king!! #AMAjoche”
The @commonmanview said, “Drake had to hug @wizkidayo twice.. while watching the video, pause it at the moment before he went in for a second hug and take a look at Drake’s face.. he was in awe, he knew he was in the presence of greatness… #wizkid”
@aloorahnin_ said, “My pastor said on Sunday, Biblically, “A Kiss is a sign of respect”: Drake brought him out, hugged him, drew him back, hugged him again and KISSED him. And this gave me butterflies
Buh Zaddy is short sha. #Wizkid”
@Ada_obi_ said “Anyone using this avenue to compare Wizkid and Davido is extremely stupid! #Wizkid”
@_roohi said, “last night was mad fun. haven’t seen so much genuine joy and love from fans at a concert in a long time. Thank you @wizkidayo ❤️ #Wizkid #Vancouver”
Well, we are Nigerians (except for @_roohi) and this is typical. All the same, we wish Starboy Wizzy all the best!
