“is coined from section 419 of the Nigerian criminal code dealing with fraud. Having evolved from the street, town, community and city attack, 419 most widely known component now has now become ‘Internet Scamming’ or ‘Cyber Crime’.

Clamp down with an increased rate of poverty, according to the World Poverty Clock statistics, it revealed that over 90 million Nigerians are living in extreme poverty, which according to World Bank, people are considered to be living in extreme poverty once they are living below $1.90 cent or N683.03.

Also with a population of about 50 million aged 18-40 years-old, it would be absolutely impossible to assume that the nation would not have a rising hike of fraud and crime, emerging from the adolescents who are desperately seeking greener pastures, comfort and financial independence.

Despite the clampdown and failures of the government, in terms of the high rate of unemployment of young people, the number of people living in extreme poverty, it still does not justify the reason why a young man would give himself into fraudulent activity.

Fortunately, recently the institution that is embodied with the responsibility to clamp down any form of a financial criminal case, Economic Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) has been doing a great job lately, holistically capturing a host of internet fraudsters irrespective of their hideout.

This was made possible through the verdict of the EFCC acting Chairman, Ibrahim Magu, in a statement by the spokesman, Mr Tony Orilade, in a news report by PUNCH directing the operational sector of the EFCC to flush all states of the Federation free of cybercrime and internet fraudster, he said; “The chairman, Ibrahim Magu, has constituted a Special Task Force on Internet Fraud. The task force is made up of personnel from ICT, Public Affairs, Operations and Special Control Unit against Money Laundering.”

It was after this command from Magu, during the Yuletide season of the year 2018, that the agency has begun a national rampage of the cybercrime perpetrators, with scores of culprits apprehended by the EFCC, from several parts of the nation.

The arrest and of course the charging of Naira Marley to court has raised loads of dust in Nigerian, with varying views, some hold the belief that the EFCC is on a wrong course, while some believe that bad leadership and economy is not an excuse to indulge in cyber fraud.

Here’s what a colleague in the entertainment, Actress Foluke Daramola said in a video on her Instagram page;

“My take is we have to start building a stronger and better Nigeria from u and 1 if we say cos the country is bad and doesn’t have anything to offer us then we will be the victims of our own misbehaviour, never forget we are 1st Nigerians before anything and we can only but be 2nd class citizens wherever we find ourselves so why are we bent on soiling the name of our country further???!!!!

“Two wrongs never make a right, just because there is no money in the country, there’s no work does not corruption does not justify evil because our politicians are doing it does not make it right for us to do it…

“It’s really sad when we now try to paint bad good…we should understand the implications, the depth of the what we do. when we do things wrong people tag us as negative, Nigerians are seen as crooks all love the world. we don’t see anything wrong with that.

We feel the need to continue in the madness and when the government or the EFCC or anybody is trying to paint the society clean we see them as evil just because our politicians are corrupt. I am never justifying any politician being corrupt but it starts from somewhere. what us true change? true change starts with you…

Let us take a look inwards, think it of the box, there a lot of stuff that we can do to make money. There are young millionaires and billionaires that are making their money in a clean way

She ended the 4 clip-video by saying ‘I don’t believe what they are doing they are victimizing Naira Marley, I’m sorry if he has done something wrong, he has to face the consequences”

In support of the Actress, I submit that the government has failed everyone but if everyone hinges upon that excuse and delve into Yahoo Yahoo or any other crime related vices, the nation would soon become inhabitable for us all.

Let be reminded in the words of the great sage; Muhandis Gandhi ‘An Eye For An Eye, Only Makes The Whole World Go Blind’, it would then be wise to say that repaying the failure of the government by engaging in internet fraud then no one would be safe anymore.
