One Killed, Ten Injured As Petrol Tanker Explodes On Abuja-Kaduna Expressway

The Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) has just confirmed that one person has died while ten others sustained injuries as a petrol tanker exploded at the Dikko-junction on the Abuja-Kaduna expressway.

The Director-General of NSEMA, Alhaji Ahmed Inga, on Saturday, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Minna that the incident happened at around 10:30 pm on Friday night and that several vehicles were burnt as a result.

“We received a report from our Suleja Desk Officer that there was a tanker explosion and many people were affected.

“We cannot give the actual number of people that lost their lives.

“We will confirm that during our assessment; but from the report of our Suleja Desk Officer, one person died in the incident.

“Many people were injured, and several vehicles were completely burnt,” he said.

He further revealed that firefighters from the State Fire Service worked hand in hand with their counterparts in the Federal Fire Service to bring the fire under control at around 4:30 am on Saturday morning.

The NSEMA boss revealed that the corpse of the deceased had been deposited in the morgue at Umaru Musa Hospital, Sabon Wuse. The injured ones were receiving treatment at the same facility as well.

Inga said that officials of the agency would visit the scene of the incident to find out what caused the explosion.
