Report from Abagbo Village, Takwa Bay area of Lagos says five children of the same family were burnt to death at the weekend.
One Mrs Florence Asoye had reportedly left home in the morning and left her children under the care of a maid popularly called house help.
The maid was said to have left home and locked the children in the room. It was learnt that attempts by neighbours to gain access to the building were unsuccessful when a fire broke out.
It was gathered the five children were burnt beyond recognition when Mrs. Asonye returned home.
According to The Sun, the woman who thought maybe that her five children would have been saved, requested for their whereabouts, but she was told that they were all burnt.
The victims include Folake Ogundiya, 13; Abigail Ogundiya, eight – years old; Daniel Bakare, six -years -old; Chidima Achomye, Nnamdi Achomye, two-years-old and Khadijat, one -year -old.
Lagos State Police Command who confirmed the sad incident through the State Police public relations officer ( PPRO), Bala Elkana, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said a team of detectives led by the DPO visited the scene.
It was gathered that the mother of the victims left home at about 1830hours to Takwa-bay Jetty only to come back to see her room completely raised by fire.
Lagos State Police PRO was quoted as saying, “According to her, she left her children under the care of Sulit, who locked the children in the room and left to an unknown destination”.
